Where to get air charts for IFR navigation, SID's & STAR's

Recommended Posts

Where can I get hold of up-to-date air charts for airports & also to allow me to plan my own route including SID's & STAR's? I am a beginner when it comes to using FMC!!

>But remember, the PSS 777 FMC does not (hopefully, it will>soon) support the use of IAPs. Actually it does support them, its just that our data currently doesnt include the ability for example to list non ILS approaches. An FMC is no replacement for a set of charts which every virtual pilot should availe of.Looking at the approach into Canberra (YSCB) with an RNAV approach http://www.airservices.gov.au/publications...SCBGN02-106.pdf you will see a number of points for example SCBSD & SCBI - all of these can be entered into our FMC.An excellent resource for free charts across the globe is VATSIM's Pilot Resource Centre - www.vatsim.net/prc

Norman (PSS)Example Flight - London Heathrow to Amsterdam Schipoll. Having selected departure runway, FMC gives list of SID's. How do I know which to select & then accurately follow? Same for Arrival, having selected runway, which STAR do I select & follow?

Sam,I understood on the first occassion what you meant. Like other deverlopers, we dont create the SID/STARS. This info is updated regularly both in real life and also in FS. The same is true for all elements of the NAVDATA. As an addon company we simply couldnt keep up with the twice monthly ammendments. As I have said, there is nothing to stop end users adding the details to the navdata files - a breakdown of what they mean is available under user edits | misc. When I am flying I have the real charts in front of me and based from those will depend on what information I add in. But surely this is not true to life I hear you say - not so. Recently I commented to a crew as they were programming their FMC before embarking on an International flight and I noticed both the lack of company routes and Intermediate fixes - the reply was that this information costs and they are left to input the points manually - much more so than in our FMC.The CF point is fictitious and stands for Centre Fix. Using your example of the CIVET5 I have attached the current chart. As you will see, it ends at FUELR. I have then added the ILS25L which shows these points and then our FMC with these points showing. Note for the purpose of this exercise I was located on LAX's 24R - hence the distances being incorrect. So in short, if the controller gives you "from XXX track DCT HUNDA" there is nothing to stop you doing this. The CIVET5 Charthttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/148416.jpgThe 25L ILS Charthttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/148418.jpgThese points depicted in the PSS 777.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/148419.jpg

Thanks for the response. Ya'll really do a terrific job and we appreciate it. The ability to create custom fixes (like the GAATE > LADLE fix-set hand created in the PSS FMC for the example) are a real plus and add some very detailed realism to the sim. For instance the LAX example has 8 separate IAP approaches that could be called a moments notice. Any one of up to 32 (or more) IPs could be assigned by a controller as an approach clearance intercept. They might want to get the airport "turned around" or just swap traffic to a parallel runway on a 5 mile final. This could easily (even normally) require accepting a clearance onto an approach at a near-in fix. If these IAPs were not pre-canned and ready to go, the best a crew really could do is request vectors. . or just keep heading nor-by-nor-east till the localizer showed up. There are times at LAX where the instruction/readback communications don
