PSS 757 Textures converted to DXT3

Recommended Posts

Guest SgtBel4

Hello All...Would someone be able to provide a list of files that they used to convert to DXT to assist with the better frame rates. I have to admit I did disable the VC and that did help tremendously! Perhaps even some people out ther could benefit from a PSS 757 Tutorial on how to convert to DXT3! Perhaps these coonverted files could maybe be added to the user edits section? Or iis this infact a non authorized user edit; inwhich case im willing to get this mod from someone and try it out.Cheers"Benji"

Hi BenjiThere are a number of files for each model and airline that can be converted to DTX3 to aid with faster frame rates/screen refresh on change of view, not just the files for the VC. In fact, I have not converted any of my VC files at all - just the livery files. However, there are so many liveries that you would need to do all the liveries yourself that you have installed.A good idea would have been for PSS to provide the files as either DXT3 or current larger BMP files so users could select the option they wanted - any thoughts, Norman?I do not have time to write a tutorial right now but perhaps at the weekend I may be able to do so. However, you will need to find and download a program called DXTbmp.exe, probably available on both AVSIM and Flightsim.comYou may even find the software simple enough to use to get started before there is an available tutorial, as it is fairly intuitive. However, be careful to experiment with copies of your textures instead of the originals!Let me know by Friday if you still need further assistance and I will do what I can during the weekend.Regards,Brian

Hi guys,You can also use imagetool and I think it can be found at the MS SDK site. You can convert bmp's to DXT3. I personally use the program to mipmap all the exterior daytime images of my aircraft which makes them look much sharper in the sim. Not sure if affects frames but my aircraft look really nice.Cheers,

Give this a bash,http://bjones4.co.uk/temp/TextureConverter.exePut in the folder of the livery you want to convert and run, then do as it says.If you want to convert all your liveries for a specific aircraft, put it in the root folder of that aircraft and it will go through each sub folder and convert everything it finds.

>Thanks Ben, any tips on when to use Mip V Non-Mip?>Thanks in advance,>-Paul>>>http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/156303.jpg>Hey Paul did you mean which bmp's to mipmap? In that case I mip only the exterior daytime "t" file "(filename_t.bmp)." I don't know if you have ever tried it but it really improves the look of the AC, even in the preview pane while selecting an AC... give it a try.Cheers,

Thanks Rob,That is exactly what I was referring to.So I would copy all of the _t .bmp's out, convert those to DXT w/MIP and then convert the rest of the textures, VC inclued w/out Mip. Does that sound right? Thanks so much for the help, I really appreciate it. I am no longer talking about just PSS but a lot of other A/C as well :)Thanks again,-Paulhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/156324.jpg

(Imagetool can't do the job bcz the loss of quality)(great to use it also for FSX for DXT5 and DDS ;-))All my custom made AI files converted to (1000 files) DXT1 without mips in batch :-) hughe FPS increase there lol :-)Make sure if you convert to other formats as DXT3 or 32Bit to leave the L maps out....For ground textures it's a total different story sometimes you want mipmaps :-lolIn general the performance with mipmaps is better hence NVIDIA hardware like the mipmap stuff ;-)But as we all know it introduce the blurries on the liveries ;-)Hope this is helpfull for ya guys ;-)O all my livery textures are DXT3 :-)Andr

Hey Andre,Brilliant as always...So what does your batch tool use to actually handle the conversion? Is it using DXTBMP?Can you shoot it over to my email? Thanks Andre. PS, love the 757 textures, when you going to give her a weathered look like the 76 ;)Hope all is well,-Paulhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/156325.jpg

Ben, does it run only for the PSS Boeing 757, or it converts any bitmap it runs into? Because I downloaded it, but I can't make it work
