Why start the race on a Sunday?

I was just wondering why you are starting the race on a Sunday. It looks like to me that it would be better to start it on a Friday evening. This way more people would be off work and able to participate. People could plan on making it an all weekend event. If you start on a Sunday, a lot of people would miss out come Monday due to having to go to work. Just a thought.Hawk

Excellent point, and it's duly noted for future years' races. For now, though, there are two main reasons:Tradition - The race is always started on the Sunday following Valentine's Day.Logic - Since ancient times, Sunday has been the first day of the week. It meakes sense, then to start a large endeavor such as ours on the first day of a new week.And, for this year's race, the start date has already been announced, and though there is an excellent argument for starting on a different day, it's just not strong enough to outweigh the logisitical difficulties changing the race start at this point would bring.Regards-Matt SmithOrganizerFlight Simulator Around-The-World Race

And racing on a sunday isn't a tradition just to us.Formula 1 racing races on sundays after qualifying sessions on saturday and training on friday. NASCAR races on sunday too I believe.Not sure about Reno air racing but I'd not be surprised if they do the same.Did Phileas Phog start his round the world in 80 days on a sunday (after church of course)? I don't have the book but I'd not be surprised.

In reality, because it sounds nice, and that's it :-)Furthermore, as the race can last anything between 4-7 days depending on routing, you can guarantee that someone will ask why it doesn't end on a Friday? Well it you're any good at planning it just may ;-)
