Wind smoothing - a thing to consider!

Recommended Posts

Hi allDuring my practice runs during the week, I noticed something strange: Sitting at the active runway 18 at SCXX, alt 4000 ft, wind was reported as 136 at 06. Take-off, up to 10000 ft, follow the pattern around, in for landing - but wait: The wind had changed more than 90 degrees??? And it was still changing as I made the landing in slight tailwind!Reason: Wind smoothing in FSUIPC. I had mine set to max 1 knot or 1 degree per second, so for a quick descent there was not enough time for the wind to 'get back' to 136. Now this may be bad enough flying solo, but when flying in a group whether multiplayer or just with scouts, you might get in serious trouble if either the scout or you has too agressive smoothing on. Even the same smoothing for both may produce drastically different results as you're doing your approach.Maybe it would be better to turn it off when racing? Still, that will probably pull more than one Avanti out of the sky, so maybe we should agree on a level of smoothing?BRGDSSven Sorensen, EKCH
