P-38 Range with 300 gallon ferry tanks

Recommended Posts

Has anyone tested this? The practice route has a couple of long legs coming up. I wonder what the max range is for teh P-38 with big tanks.

I don't think the 300 gallon tanks are eligible for the race, the rules state: Aircraft may not be equipped with non-certified ferrying tanks or engine tweaks. (Aircraft with drop tanks not exceeding 300 gallons total, properly modeled and certified by the appropriate governing agency, are eligible.)The P-38 with the 150 gallon tanks are fully capable of flying two hours with full throttle, and that's all that's needed. The long legs that are now coming up in the practice are part of a corridor, and if you want to fly the legs longer than 1,000 nm, you have to use an airplane with a gross take off weight of more than 60,000 pounds.Klas
