As a child I had the good fortune to be a passenger on a DC-3. I'll never forget it, my first flight and unaccompanied by my parents. I remember the plane had a distinct odor, like an old Greyhound bus and the backs of the seats had little paper covers where your head would touch the fabric. I remember being greatly dismayed when I was seated over the right wing, and couldn't see much of the ground. Not long after takeoff, the engine started gushing quantities of what looked like oil, and I wondered how long it would be until the whole affair burst into flames. Soon after that, we flew into a pretty severe thunderstorm, and the plane shuddered and pitched like crazy with lightning flashing nearby. Eventually we jolted to a landing and I left with a broad smile and a lifelong love of aviation. Since then, I've flown a number of commercial airlines, but that first one will always be the best!

I have enjoyed reading the lists of aircraft flown, but I think I can add a few not mentioned. As a retired military pilot, perhaps an unfair advantage, but I will only include those I have actual stick time in.In chronological order;Percival PrenticeHarvardWellington T10HastingsLancasterSunderlandShackleton Mk I II and IIIValiantVictorB47VulcanBelfastPembrokeAnson OxfordHunterBuccaneerNimrod Mk IThats my list as P1. Have had trips on many other aircraft and numerous aluminium tubes, but if Im not sat in the cockpit I am not happy?Would I do it again? you bet
