Aircraft You Have Been On

Recommended Posts

Rather than read through the 254 replies spread over 17 pages, I read only the first page and the last two to see if I had flown on any aircraft not mentioned there. Perhaps they are mentioned in the intervening 14 pages but those in which I have flown and which don't appear to have been mentioned are the Comet (BOAC), Vickers Vanguard (BEA) and Vickers Viscount (TAA).

The mention of airlines on those pages got me to thinking about how many of the airlines which I have flown on are no longer in existence.

My first flight was in  a Trans Australian Airlines DC-3 from Hobart, Tasmania to Melbourne, Victoria, Australia in 1948 (at the age of 3) at a time when the Captain gave you a certificate if it was your first flight in a plane. Twelve years later, QANTAS still had its Captains providing a certificate for passengers crossing the equator for the first time (me crossing in 1960 in a Lockheed Electra flying between Port Moresby  PNG to Manila, Philippines). I still have those certificates.
