10 years of Microsoft Flight Simming for me... How abou...

Featured Replies

Hi,Wow, an ongoing thread from 2006. Guess I'll add my 2 cents. I started with Microsoft Flight Sim back in 1985 with the Microsoft Flight Simulator for the Tandy 1000, 1200HD, and 2000 - Version 3.0. Twenty Five (25) years ago, I still have the book and floppy disc. I also have my Sublogic Scenery Disk 3 (1985).

I have been buying MS Flight sim almost since the beginning. The stick figure days..but hardly using them. I buy a new version and I play with it for a few days..thats the end of that. When I bought FS2002 (about 3-4 years ago), I was curious about the VOR navigation. Then I got into other ILS and ADF and what not.. I found this wonderful site http://www.navfltsm.addr.com/ I spent so much time reading about it...... I thought I may as well get into real flying. Got my ASEL and AMEL, Tailwheel ..working on my IFR on a multi. Plan to do my commercial and maybe CFI. :) Manny
Much respect to you Manny. In the 25 years or so I've been simming I often ummed & ahhed about stepping into the real world, but there was always something in the way. Now, as I turn fifty, I have the time but can't make the medical grade. A simming tale of regret. Good luck to you in your next challenge which you've no doubt reached judging from the date of your post.

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

Wow, that is early. I remember FS5 and Microprose F117 Stealth, being played on a 386SX25, 4mb Ram, Trident 512K v card and a 40mb HDD. The Turbo button was mandatory for flight sim. Had a bit of a hiatus in the mid 90's when Geoff Crammonds Grand Prix 3 took all my time. Came back for FS95 when AMD was king. Went through the dog that was FS2000, and we now finally have the hardware to run the best incarnation - FSX.

I got FS9 for Christmas in 2004 - when I was 7. Installed it in Feb or March 2005. I've been playing FS almost every day since...First plane I flew was the 747. I just put full throttle and pulled the joystick all the way up.LOL.gif

My first ever experience with FS was FS98...I was 10 years old and my dad had bought it with our first computer. We didn't stick with it for long.

I sort of rediscovered it when I was...maybe 20? So just a few years ago I ordered FS2004 (FSX had been out for a couple years already but I had read of the performance issues. I now run FSX), and the more I got into it, the more the interest just sort of snowballed. For a short while not too long ago I even seriously considered going into a career in aviation just because my interest seemed so alive (I had even done an intro flight at a local airport), but ultimately decided against it.
