Dark Moment

You can never have enough Tristars ...

Recommended Posts

My file is already at Avsim, Ed ... aertrcx2.zip. The scenery in the screenies is the payware 'Hong Kong 2004' from Flightsoft, which I just happen to have enabled right now. I alternate between that and others! Brilliant Mark!Wonder if you will be doing a -200? Eric

Cathay only had one, a L1011-1-15-200 which they bought in December 1976 and registered as VR-HHG. The same month, they converted her to a -100 series, presumably by simply switching engines as most other things are the same between variants. So there's not a lot of point modelling a -200 in Cathay paint!I am doing one more paint - one only, as I must get back to DC-3s for a while - and that will be Dragonair's VR-HOD in old colours. That's a -100 again, of course. How's your paintbrush? Mark,Thanks for the great repaints. I did notice that in the aircraft.cfg data you supplied, that the first texture variation also has the following lines:panel=omwingssound=altThis may trip up some other users. BTW, I also have an old copy of the Omwings panel, and was wondering how difficult it would be to merge with the Aerosim planes. Do you have any advice?Graeme

(*$%(&^()*&YTRR*&)*&T)*&T)H(*&()*Y**$#$%#*$%#*!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Thanks, Graeme. You wouldn't believe how many times I read that README through and didn't spot that. What's more, I told people who installed the first paint of that livery to update the fltsim entry with that piece of garbage. Dang! Not a peep out of anyone yet, though, so maybe everyone worked it out. I think I'll handle it on a "if they ask, I'll sort 'em out" basis rather than posting a fix. I will mention it in my next and final paint's README, which will be for Dragonair old colours, given that most who download that will probably have downloaded Cathay. The Omwings panel ... I have merged it successfully and am using it as my primary panel with the Aerosim Tristars. In my own case I have:1. Added in the Aerosim VC sections to the Omwings panel. I have not bothered to change any gauges in the VC, it blends well enough.2. Removed all the 2D views from the panel folder and from the PANEL.CFG. They weren't brilliant anyway, and I love the Aerosim 3D panel.3. Dumped the Omwings FMS and inserted the Aerosim one. Blends well.4. Updated the GPS call for FS9's gauge, although I don't use it actually. I may remove it entirely.5. Finally, I've darkened the panel down a bit as I find all FS panels too bright both in daylight and at night. It looks more realistic to me now. What I have not done is properly tested and compared gauge calibration. The Omwings panel was written for the -200. It may be, ttherefore, that the readings are wrong for the lower-powered -100. I haven't had time to fly enough to check all that out yet.I shall be doing a bit more tweaking, most likely, as I get to use it more.If you'd like my PANEL.CFG to save you time configuring it, I'd have no problem sharing that, given that you have the bitmaps and gauges. I'd need your email. Before anyone new to this game asks, I am not able to share any more than that owing to copyright reasons, as the Omwings panel is no longer freely available, regrettably.I can also recommend Ed's photoreal panel. It looks very good indeed and is fun to use also. For all that, I don't really have a problem with Aerosim's effort. The 2D panel looks a bit flat, that's all, but it's very well laid out.MarkMark "Dark Moment" BeaumontVP Fleet, DC-3 AirwaysTeam Member, MAAM-SIM[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cathayhk.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/maamlogo2.jpg[/a]

<<>>>Yeah right. I'm finding a number of discrepancies, Graeme and others, not the least of which is that the autopilot doesn't tally with Aerosim's. Ah well, more to play with, it's all fun.MarkMark "Dark Moment" BeaumontVP Fleet, DC-3 AirwaysTeam Member, MAAM-SIM[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cathayhk.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/maamlogo2.jpg[/a]

Ed's panel looks good and works great although there is no fuel guage or panel:-( I replced the original fuel panel from Aerosoft in place of the yoke but this doesn't have the functionality of the fuel panel the "other" Ed has been working on judging by his great shots from his flight from Brussels to Kinshasa :-eek Perhaps we can encourage him to upload this????

Mark,I also noticed that the engine gauges give quite different readings(switching from the 2d to the VC):-( I might try merging some of the Aerosim gauges into the Omwings panel, but then that might be more trouble than it is worth...

Yes, could be, Graeme. I'm in 'flying' rather than 'fiddling' mode, at the moment, trying to get some flight plans (that work!) sorted out, so have reverted to the stock Aerosim 2D/3D combination for now. They have done a wonderful job all told, so that's good enough for me for the present.Might just touch up the bitmap slightly though ;) I'd like to shade it a little to give it more depth of perspective under the autopilot. It looks a touch flat right now in 2D mode.MarkMark "Dark Moment" BeaumontVP Fleet, DC-3 AirwaysTeam Member, MAAM-SIM[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cathayhk.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/maamlogo2.jpg[/a]
