STAR assignment when building FLT PLAN ??

How does one determine which STAR to use when building a flt plan.Say I am flying from KMIA to KLAX but I am not aware of what runway will be in use because of changing winds hours in advance of my departure.I use RC4 and I am not aware how I can make changes during flt and how to alter the FMC to inpout a STAR after the flt has progressed.DO I just assign any STAR/rnwy for arrival then hopefully it sticks ???ThanksAndy

Hi Andy!Negative ;) - You may enter the STAR when departing, but as you said the weather or traffic situation could change so you have to update your FMC manually via the ARR page. There you can select the STAR, TRANS and Runway. You have to EXEC(ute) after any changes, otherwise the FMC does not update your changes.Let me know if you need further infos!Ciao,Markus

Markus so what you are telling me is you just include a STAR and a corresponding runway regardless what runway is in use at KLAX prior to departure from KMIA.ThanksAndy

You can do that. What I wanted to tell you is that the FMC allows you to be flexible. You may study the section in the 767 manual to find out how many possibilities you have to edit your route even during flight.When I plan a flight, I check the weather situation of the DEP and the ARR APT and choose a SID and a STAR based on the current weather situation over the ARR APT. Then during flight I check ATIS in range of the ARR APT to get information about the current weather and the active runway. That gives a hint which STARs could fit. When my programmed STAR matches I fly it that way, if not I redefine my approach and choose another one. In most cases the virtual ATC guides you down to the final approach by vectors (gives you headings and altitudes until capturing the LOC).For the FS2Crew tutorial flight you just have to load the SFOLAX1 route into the FMC and everything is set up. The procedure above is for planning your own routes.Remember that you have to compute the route during setup for yourself, because the FO just aligns the IRS ;)Ciao, Markus
