Why can't I get the pitch to work???

Recommended Posts

Am I wrong to think you can get the plane to climb at a desired pitch set on the FD panel? I have set an altitude, but cannot get the plane to follow the FD bars. Being one that doesn't fly older aircraft with APs such as this, maybe I am wrong in thinking this AP can do that. I would really like to fly this plane but I am kinda bummed out about it at the moment. Also, I have not seen a paintkit for this but have seen mentions for it. FD don't work direct with the AP CWS. you must imput your pitch and left cws.adjust your fd to keep you climb/cruice/descent/approach as required.

The FD and AP are completely independant systems. Use the AP to follow the desired path that you put into the FD. You have to control the aircraft via the AP to follow the FD. The AP will not capture an altitude and this must be done manually or with the AP via CWS and Alt Hold switch.Cheers,JohnBoeing 727/737 & Lockheed C-130/L-100 Mechanichttp://www.sstsim.com/images/team/JR.jpg

Say, I want to climb to 15,000.set your alt alert for 15,000ft and adjust your baro.after climb, adjust your pitch for a 250/300/.70 climb.adjust too the climb EPR due TAT and FL.after the altitude alert horn shime, reduce your climb power, and slowly reduce your pitch, keep the speed.level off the aircraft at 15,000ft, set your FD to provide the level off attitude and set you AP to hold altitude.just after this, set you cruise EPR for your FL and GW.

The autopilot will hold the plane at whatever pitch it was at when you engaged the autopilot paddles. Once the paddles are engaged, CSW (Control Wheel Steering) is activated. You can adjust the pitch using the yoke and when you release the yoke the autopilot will hold the new pitch. If the pitch needs to be adjusted you must do it yourself. Keep in mind that even if the pitch is constant the rate of climb or descent will change if the speed of the aircraft changes. I find it easier to set the climb epr and then adjust the pitch to maintain a constant speed, usually 300 knots ias or max mach if you reach that.Sidney Schwartz KPDX

Danny,Use the yoke to control pitch once the AP is engaged... Yes, the Yoke, don't use the FD pitch command, as all it does is command a pitch angle in the Flight Director, like mentioned before, the AP and FD are completely independent systems that listen to the same boss :) (At least that is how I understand it). Pretty realistic and nifty feature I might add... :) That is how it works in real life as I understand. Hope this helps, regards,Macs :)
