EPR gauges and altimeter red bars

Recommended Posts

I am just starting to get familiar with the updated panel. I have patched up to # 3 in correct sequence but am still getting no functioning from the altimeter and the epr gauges. They have a red flag. ALso, the flap guage is not changing when I select various flap settings. Am I missing something in my electrical power settings? I tried loading the default 172 first, as mentioned in some of the responses to others. Thanks to all for breathing new life into this classic wonderful panel and aircraft!Bill Gustafson,KSAT

Hi Bill,I found out pretty much by trial and error that you need to go through a particular sequence in starting the panel up so that the red flags over some of the instruments are removed. This also makes the flap gauge respond as normal. Adapted from the PMDG checklist, I put the APU on (lights panel) followed by firing up the APU generator (overhead) and putting the voltage selector switches to 'bat bus' and 'APU GEN'. Then switch in the hydraulic pump electrical switches, aircon packs, bleed air and so forth, and that appears to do it.I don't start up using the default Cessna, and I haven't had any electrical problems - strange. My sim does fire up with the Beech Baron at my local airfield, though (Shoreham, UK).;)

The generators (engine and APU) do not connect themselves to any bus when powered. You have to do it manually with the power control switches on the gen control panel, or the instruments will indeed be unpowered. For example, if you have the APU supplying power and simply shut down the APU after starting engines without first connecting the two engine driven gens to the transfer busses with the switches on the gen panel, you'll lose all AC power. If the APU is running and you shut down the engines without first connecting the APU gens to the transfer busses with the power control switches, you'll lose all AC power. To restate...no power source on the plane will power anything until it is manually connected to the electrical busses by the crew.
