Is the parking brake set? The CIVA uses an internally modeled pseudo-APU during ground ops, but it's only available on the ground with the parking brake set. All explained in the CIVA docs.RegardsBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-V L-300Santiago de Chile

Thanks Bob, but I always start up with the parking brake set. Will read the CIVA manuals yet again but fear that repetitive reading just reinforces my error.Peter

More important than the engines, when you artart the default Cessna, make sure that the battery, alternator, and avionics master switches are all ON before switching airplanes. If you're going cold and dark on the Cessna before switching, that will kill the INS.RegardsBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-V L-300Santiago de Chile

Please see this thread in the TinMouse forumhttp://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...id=34&mode=fullI think the other guy was pressing INSERT twice between the lat and long entry. Key sequence for N1234.5 W09876.5 should be N (INSERT light comes on) 1 2 3 4 5 INSERT (INSERT light goes out) W (INSERT light comes back on) 0 9 8 7 6 5 INSERT (INSERT light out)The warning light is probably a 6-41 error, which you will get anytime the lat/long is more than a mile or two from the pos the last time the INS was shut down. This is commonly seen unless you always start your flight from the last place you landed, and doesn't necessarily mean you did something wrong. Clear the error IAW the manual.Switch at top left of the CDU with a green light? Are you talking about the MSU at the top left of the overhead panel? There is no green light on the CDU.RegardsBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-V L-300Santiago de Chile

Bob It was old age and senility that prevented correct operation of the CIVA unit, and also proved something I said earlier that repeat reading often deepens misunderstanding ( although I wrote it differently but can

Peter; Glad you have it sorted out.>One more question How do I enter the following waypoint.>>MITOS N38 26 58 01 W000 00 49 40>>I understand that the N 38..... is entered as 38 26 6>>but I do not see how the W component is entered. It appears that the coordinates you have are in deg min sec, or perhaps using sexagesimal minutes but with the decimal point removed. There's a big difference between these coordinates in sexagesimal: N 38 26.5801 W 000 00.4940 and these coords in DMS (degrees minutes seconds) N 38 26 58 01 W 000 00 49 40. Where did you get the coords? If these are sexagesimal (and they probably are if they came from an aeronautical waypoint database), then the points are rounded to the nearest tenth of a minute and entered asN38266 W000005If they are indeed in DMS, they have to be converted to sexagesimal first. Do a google search for "degrees minutes seconds" and you'll find lots on coordinate systems and conversions.RegardsBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-V L-300Santiago de Chile

Bob,I use "route finder" ( http://rfinder.asalink.net/free) an Italian website for most of my flying (level D 767) and find it very useful. But of course I just copy the waypoints into the FMC add a SID and go fly.Tinmouse has made me start thinking again which cannot be a bad thing.By the way what is the switch at the top left hand of the CDU with associated green light and does it have any effect ?Thanks a lot Peter

The green nav ready light tells you the INS is aligned and ready for nav mode...frankly, I can't conceive how you could be using the CIVA unit without using it (?)Just looked at the routefinder lat/long data, and I see it uses DMS with decimal fractions on the seconds...those coords are not usable directly in any nav system I am familiar with. Here's an excerpt from an FSBuild flight plan...note the difference in the waypoint coord format: N4313.1/W11059.2 193 CLB 325007 SLCKICNE 025 DCT 192 324 327 00/04 00/04 .../... 0009/... 0163/...
