Engage INS

Recommended Posts

Dear all, dear Tinmouse teamThis is simply a fantastic panel/model combination. Well done! (a good "congratuation" must always preseed a question) ;)I noticed throughout the forum that the question of how do we engage the INS to command the lateral direction has not been answered. So long I had to follow the advice of an other member and add the CIVA switch manualy. Is this the solution or is there something hidden that I have failed to notice so long? There is a NAV/RAD switch next to the HSI and I have a feeling that there must be something there. However, I get a hand when I hover over it but nothing happen when clicking. Any help will be much appreciated.Keep on the good workYiannis

The Nav/Rad switch changes the nav data source on the HSI and gives control of the heading bug to the INS.Do you have the freeware or payware version of FSUIPC? The panel talks to the INS via FSUIPC offsets, not sure if the CIVA INS is or needs to be registered to enable it to interface with FS via FSUIPC.RegardsBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-V L-300Santiago de Chile

Hi and thanks for the answer,I have a registered FSUIPC and as far as I know CIVA is/was a freeware(?) In any case there is nothing "abnormal" in the configuration. Could you please (or someone else) provide us with a checklist for this RAD/NAV switch to work since I am not the only person with this problem as far as I can see? Do we need to set something in FSUIPC? Could this be a bug and we just have to wait for the next patch? Thanks againYiannis

I went back and looked at the code, and actually it does not use FSUIPC...the panel talks to the CIVA via its API directly rather than using FSUIPC. That was about 10,000 lines of code back so I 'membered it wrong...I don't see anything in the code...works perfectly on 3 PCs here, and for lots of other users.Which version of the CIVA gauge are you using? In what directory is it installed? Are you using any other add-ons which can control the FS heading bug (IE FSNav, FlightDeck Companion etc)? Also, be aware that the heading bug control only works when there's a valid nav leg active on the INU...I can't find the exact details of leg validity in the docs, but it appears that there is no valid leg data while the aircraft is not moving and/or on the ground. Normally the hdg bug sits parked at 9 O'Clock until airborne. Are you seeing leg course and distance info on the HSI with the Nav/Rad switch in Nav?You might try installing the CIVA dump gauge (located in the CIVA SDK folder, details in the CIVA dkReference.pdf file in the same folder) in the panel and send me the output.Bob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-V L-300Santiago de Chile

Hi again, well the version of CIVA I use is 1.30.00 build 1856 December 2004.The INS is installed under F:Microsoft GamesFlight Simulator 9CIVA and to be honset it works perfect with every single aircraft I have used it. Further to this, as I said I added the CIVA switch (as a temporary measure) on the 732ADV panel and it works by controling the HDG bug. So I don't think it is a CIVA installation issue. Rather then the custom NAV/RAD switch seems to be missing something? (dll, lib?.. it is just a suggestion). The status of this switch on my panel is constantly:RAD in a black backgroundNAV in an illuminated backgroundAs I said although I get a "hand" when I hover over the switch, nothing happens once I click. Also, when I engage the INS using the CIVA switch I added (as a temporary measure to have the INS working) the RAD/NAV switch does not seems to "reflect" the working/engaged condition of the INS. This might mean something as I know that usualy in FS, gauges talking to the same offset "reflect" one each other (just a suggestion). Finally, yes I do have FSNavigator but I don't use it as an autopilot; moreover all the way points are set correctly (I think I am a CIVA experianced user). My HSI also indicates DME from the VORS that are tuned in the radio stack and I have not been able to "see DMEs" from the CIVA as the switch does not seem to engage! Can you please tell me what short of "states" this switch can get once succesfully clicked? As I said I only have NAV background illuminated all the time whether I click or not.Kind RegardsYiannis

if i'm not mistaken, you need the newest version of the CIVA ins to have the functionality the panel uses.that would, iirc,be version 1.40.you are using an older build,1.30.try to install that one, then see if it works :DcheersJP.

I think we may close the subject. It was an issue of using the 1.30 while the 1.40 is needed. Actaully I had not idea that a new version was out. Many thanks to everybodyKind RegardsYiannis
