Ground Crew forgets to close a door

Recommended Posts

Guest SIX

The other day a friend of mine and I were departing at the same time from the same airport and he had to restart his simulator due to the ground crew not closing a door. Today, it happened to me, but I had spent so much prep time and it was only a flight from KPDX to KLAS I just decided to fly it :) The plane works fine, but why does this happen and what can be done to fix it when it occurs? I pressed the related key assignment to that door twenty or more times and couldn't get it to do a thing. Your help would be greatly appreciated.I bought the utility Friday and I already have crossed the pacific two times and took many smaller training flights to get used to the flow. Thanks guys,Wilson HinesMy Blog: http://www.wilsonhines.com --------------------------------------http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/747400.jpghttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/pmdg_744F.jpghttp://online.vatsimindicators.net/837438/3074.png

Wilson,Did you check the manual and ensure that the relevant keystoke for the door in question is not being utilized by either default FS or another utility such as FSPassengers for example. Which door are you referring to btw? That is the only reason you would encounter this issue.-Paulhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/157665.jpg

Hi Wilson,Paul is likely right. I suspect something "intercepted" the keypress for the doors such as Squawkbox or another program.Look in the FS2Crew manual on page 11.You can see what keys FS2Crew 'presses' to open and close the doors. You can use the same key presses to control the doors if desired. All the best,Bryan

>>If you manually hit CTRL TAB O does the door close?>>-Bryan>I must have manually hit that combination 20 times, no cigar. Oh well, these things happen :) Thanks for the come back,Wilson HinesMy Blog: http://www.wilsonhines.com --------------------------------------http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/747400.jpghttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/pmdg_744F.jpghttp://online.vatsimindicators.net/837438/3074.png

Hi Wilson,Just so we're on the same page, does this happen even when you run the tutorial flight "to the letter"?You're not skipping any steps?I might suggest also posting this in the PMDG forum. Perhaps someone there might be able to explain why that one door doesn't want to close for you. -Bryan

Well, I flew the tutorial twice and have made about six more flights (currently in the air between KLAS and KMSY). I haven't had the problem but one single time, the last flight from KPDX to KLAS. I only know that my friend had the problem one single time as well.I would like to add that on EVERY flight I keep the tutorial beside me and go through it's steps. Thanks>Hi Wilson,>>Just so we're on the same page, does this happen even when you>run the tutorial flight "to the letter"?>>You're not skipping any steps?>>I might suggest also posting this in the PMDG forum. Hi Wilson, can you let us know all other programs you have running during FS, both FS utilities add-ons and not. I for example have an external LCD monitoring device called Pertelian. It intercepts the ctrl-alt-# keystrokes even though it is running in the background and FS should over ride it. If you can give us as detailed a list as possible it might help us single the problem out.-Paulhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/157678.jpg

Wilson,If you've only experienced the doors not closing once or so (out of several flights), the course of action is to see what you did differently on those couple flights.I seem to recall the hydraulics need to be powered for some of the PMDG doors to operate, even though I believe they are operated electrically. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on this...Cheers,Bryan

On the KPDX to KLAS flight I had the flight sim alone running on the primary computer - everything else (such as system tray crap) turned off.On my DULL laptop I had FS Flight Keeper and Fs Real Time running, both of those are neutral. The HP laptop may have had Active Sky running, but I doubt it, I usually have ASWXR turned off below FL100.So, in all reality, nothing but the sim.Wilson HinesMy Blog: http://www.wilsonhines.com --------------------------------------http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/747400.jpghttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/pmdg_744F.jpghttp://online.vatsimindicators.net/837438/3074.png

Then like Bryan said, probably a procedural error or maybe there was just a bag stuck in the door... Did you do an external walkaround to make sure a ground worker wasn't stuck? You might have really hurt someone you know.Good luck, let us know how it works out,Thanks,-Paulhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/157684.jpg

Wilson sometimes if you speed up the flight preparation it can put the cargo doors out of sequence...at least that has been ny experience. If the doors do not close then use the key strokes as per FS2Crew. You need to allow plenty of time for the door to close. What are you looking at to confirm the door is moving? An out side view or the doors EICAS screen. The doors to take quite a time to move and if you are looking at the EICAS doors screen you may be lead to believe that the door is not actually moving and therefore press it again which will reopen it before it has got to the closed position. If you are not outside physically watching it then I suggest you try and press it and wait. Did you have any engines running when you noticed the door open? The ground handling bus need to be powered to open the doors and this is inhibited when the engine driven generators come on line.CheersSteve

I had this problem on my first few flights, and couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. Finally I didn't speed it up as much, and the doors shut. Haven't had a problem since I slowed down.

Hopefully that is the case in this situation. It is OK to speed up the program but, as Bryan points out regularly, make the time adjustments one click at a time and pause between them. Steve
