DA/DH - question on heights

Recommended Posts

Hi Bryan,Question for you (and I have searched): Regarding the Approach page "DA/DH", is the DA/DH value a radio height or a pressure height ?I just want to have the FS2Crew call "Decide" at the same time as the PMDG "Minimums" call. Do I have to change the "Radio 400" on the PFD? Or just put the decision height from the Charts into the DA/DH box ?I realise there's a lengthy answer involving Cat 1 Cat 2 etc but if there's a short answer for a normal ILS approach then great :-)Pardon my somewhat ignorant style.

Hi Max,I'm pretty sure the PMDG's minimums call is based off the Radar Altimeter... I think :-) I'd have to load it up to double check. That said, if you want FS2Crew's minimums call to reference the "radar altimeter," you will need to set the Approach Type to Monitored and set DH to whatever you have set on the PFD.P.S. Why do you want the PMDG's minimums call? If you don't uncheck the co-pilot sounds in the PMDG options menu, you'll have two sets of calls going at the same time.Cheers,Bryan

Ah Sorry you're absolutely right Bryan, yes I have the co-pilot unchecked in the PMDG options - I forgot. What I was after was the "Decide" call at the right time. Sometimes it's called right as I touch down and I can never remember how to ensure it comes at right height. I mostly fly normal Precision approaches, so I'll try and leave the BARO setting alone. I might be over-complicating it !

Set DA on the Baro and DH on the radio alt from the ILS chart.

Hi Max,I see now.On the Approach Brief page, set DA to the published DA as indicated on your chart. The reference for DA is the barometric altimeter, not the radar altimeter. So if your runway elevation is around say, 600 feet, your DA for a regular ILS approach (CAT1) will be around 800 feet (plus 200 feet), so you'd enter 800 feet in the DA box on the Approach Page.Cheers,Bryan
