SimConnect = FSUIPC?

Recommended Posts

Pete:I'll add my two cents in here as well: you're hard work has saved me from hard work in terms of fine-tuning the many idiosyncracies of MSFS over the years. Thank you so much for your blood, sweat and tears. Now most importantly, do you have a recommendation for a place you like to stay in Madeira!? My wife and I are planning a trip there in the next 18-24 months.Regards,http://www.my-buddy-icon.com/Icons/objects/red_3d_plane.gifAlex ChristoffN562ZBaltimore, MD

>Come downunder Pete and when you do head downunder downunder>i.e. Tasmania.Oz is on our list, for sure, but you have preserved railways there, not stuff which is disappearing fast like in the places we're visiting first ;-). We did get to NZ a few years back, visiting some friends who went out there for work. Spent just a day in Sydney, in transit, and needed a visa just to get downtown! RegardsPete

> ... do you have>a recommendation for a place you like to stay in Madeira!? My>wife and I are planning a trip there in the next 18-24>months.Well, we don't rent cars (I am not allowed to drive in any case because of severe tunnel vision), and we use the buses a lot. since most all of the bus routes start in Funchal that just about decides for us that we stay in or near Funchal.When we first went, the only hard roads were in Funchal, the rest were dirt or gravel. It took nearly all day to get over to Porto Moniz on the NW tip. So, for many trips you had to stay over some place anyway. Now all the roads are hard surfaced and there are rotten great tunnels everywhere, driving the main routes straight through. Ugh. We still like the little local buses which wiggle their way through all the villages ;-)To the West of Funchal there's a new forest of concrete hotels. Pretty ugly in my opinion. So I would recommend either a good hotel central in Funchal (but possibly a bit noisy there), or get further away. If you reckon to drive you'll have lots of choice. One of our favourites is a little self-catering "Apart-Hotel" in a back street just outside town, above the Casino. It's in the middle of the tourist "restaurant" zone. Sorry, forgot the name at present.Most often we have just 'phoned the Tourist office there, booked some place for the first two nights and found some place nice when there.Hope this is helpful.RegardsPete

Hi Pete - and all...Well, my wife and I have been to Madeira a couple of times (3, I think), and we have always stayed at the same hotel: Pestana Bay located at Praira Formosa (which is a beach, but stones - no sand). There are a number of reasons: Excellent service, great view towards Capo Gira

Pete,Talking of trains.... one of the best places I found to have a good "mooch around" was Mysore in South India.... I just wandered into the train yard.... said hello to everyone I met..and noone stopped me.... I went everywhere..and they had lots of working steam trains... and some in disrepair (this was like 15 years ago so things may have changed) but it was a great experience...Then there's the steam train that runs from nearby Ooty to Coimbator (I think).Now I live in Peru, and we have some great ( non steam ) rides... luxury in the old school... smoking cars, dining cars etc.... plus fine cuisine... pricy but amazing.... Hiram Bingham to Machu Picchu is super luxury.... and then the spectacular Cusco to Puno ride over the Altiplano to Lake Titicaca.If you like walking in the hills...we have some of that too, Huaraz in the high Andes is famous for its hiking.Cheers,PaulPS Where in Colombia were you? I like it there and have been often.

>Talking of trains.... one of the best places I found to have a>good "mooch around" was Mysore in South India.... Yes, southern India is another place on my list, as is Sri Lanka (though hopefully when there's less conflict there). My main enjoyment in India has been on the Darjeeling and the Shimla lines, in the Himalayan approaches.>Now I live in Peru, and we have some great ( non steam )>rides... luxury in the old school... smoking cars, dining cars>etc.... plus fine cuisine... pricy but amazing.... Hiram>Bingham to Machu Picchu is super luxury.... and then the>spectacular Cusco to Puno ride over the Altiplano to Lake>Titicaca.Yes, we visited Peru a few years ago. A very beautiful country. We did have steam from Lima right up to the junction in the Andes -- a climb of 16,000 feet in less than a day. This did create a few problems for some, but plenty of Coca tea did help my wife and I survive with only mild drunken euphoria near the summit! ;-)The other trips - to Huancayo and Huancelavica (sp?), Cusco to (and beyond!) Macchu Pichu, Cusco to Puno (plus steamboat on Lake Titicaca), and thence to Mollendo (across the desert) via Arequipa -- were not by steam, but we did use antique original coaches and the trips were memorable.>If you like walking in the hills...we have some of that too,>Huaraz in the high Andes is famous for its hiking.My daughter walked, mountain-biked, and rafted her way through Peru whilst we were in Ecuador, last year! ;-)>PS Where in Colombia were you? I like it there and have been>often.We were based in Bogota and the steam trips were from there mostly northwards. It was only three days -- I think the company we went with is expanding this now and there's a narrow gauge steam trip as well.RegardsPete

Hi Pete,Glad you made it here.... and you even went up to Ticlio (4818 msnm)- thats tough... yes coca tea helps... but it's still hard... I've been up there a few times, by road...it's only 132km from Lima.Anyway..trains seem to have hijacked this rather informative FSUIPC thread....sorry.Cheers,Paul

I went to AVSIM's convention two weekends ago. I live but five miles from the Dulles Hyatt, where it was held.I managed to have an hour-long conversation with John Dekker and Doug Thompson of Radar Contact. I told them I tell newbie simmers if they don't have money for anything else; RC is the one add-on they should buy. But I forgot about FSUIPC! Peter; without FSUIPC; virtually no active add-will work. It seems, for you, it's not just a necessity; it's a labor of love and you do an astonishing job of keeping it updated and fresh. It's developers like you who allow the rest of us to truly have fun with the hobby. You make it easier--and better.sean hallashburn, VA

Well, what a nice, positive thread for a change! Thanks Pete, for your hard work, and both Pete and Sven for the Madeira hotel tips! Can't wait to see the approach to Madeira's airport.Regards,http://www.my-buddy-icon.com/Icons/objects/red_3d_plane.gifAlex ChristoffN562ZBaltimore, MD

Pete, I have to concur with some of the others here. Your hard work and dedication has indeed done our community the world of good. Without FSUIPC there's a couple of what I would call now indespensible add-ons I would never have had or used. Many thanks and whatever you do when you retire I too wish you all the best.

I really hope new FSUIPC would not affect in any way addons not using it and would not change SimConnect behavior.For ex. installed FSUIPC in FS9 without any tweaks reversing behavior of KEY_ELEVATOR_SET event.It's sad to hear "your addon is not compatible with FSUIPC"So I hope for FSX we all would play nicely and do not have such conflicts.
