An Overview of SimConnect

Recommended Posts

>It would be nice to see some examples on how to use VB to>write simconnect clinets & to write Gauges.>>I imagine a VB Gauge would run significanly faster than an>XML Gauge, although not as fast as one programmed in C ??Geoff, SimConnect has little to nothing to do with gauges. No SimConnect client can be "installed" on a panel as a gauge.

Cool, I got Bill's attention :)(1) Please forgive my ignorance about Simconnect, I am still at the very early stages of trying to understand this stuff.(2) So, Can Gauges be written in VB ? Any examples around ?(3) I assume that a SimConnect client could be written in VB... that I do see mention of, but again, no examples. But my main question, which I asked incorrectly before is"Can Gauges be programmed in VB, and are there any examples of these"Geoff

The straight answer to your question is NO, gauges cannot be written in VB. You could do something like Project Magenta in VB, but not native FS gauges.Doug

So, a neat example would be of a Gauge with a knob and a display of Transition Altitude.Would show how to display numeric info, control a knob etc.BTW: I can it setting the gauge to 29.92 above the transition altitude, but what happens when you then decend back below the Transition latitude ? ( Automatically do the equivalent of pressing B ??)Sounds like a Gauge I would like :)Geoff

Hi,Again, SimConnect has very little to do with gauges. It would run as an external program that would set (and reset) the barometer setting for you. On your Altimeter gauge you would see the pressure change, but that's it. If there isn't a default variable for Transition Altitude, I'm not sure that SimConnect could send that information to a panel gauge??This could be the beginnings of a "virtual copilot" program that would do lots of similar things for you automatically (and could do things like flight attendant announcements, checklists, etc.).Hope this helps,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

>The one thing everyone can agree on I think is that the>documentation and example set for the SDK in FS9 is not the>most complete out there.>>I would be THRILLED to see sample code here.>>Also a question specific to gauges: Are we finally beyond the>gauge C based gauge SDK?>>Cheers,>>E.M.>>I believe that the gauge SDK pushes support toward XML gauges, but they still support C gauges, though I understand there to be incompatability with FS98 style gauges.Regards,Owen
