How to remove FS9?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know how to remove FS9 when it is no longer in the add/remove programs list in the control panel? There seems to be no uninstall.exe for it either. Thanks,Jeff

Jeff, have you already tried inserting Disc 1 from Flight Simulator 2004 and see if it allows you to do an uninstallation in the setup menu which comes up?Sometimes this works! Good Luck! :)

If the "normal" uninstall routines and methods don't work, you'll have to "perform manual surgery".1. In Windows Explorer, delete any and all directories relating to it - in my case, under C:Program FIlesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 2004I just deleted the entire directory. Now for the "fun/bloody" part.2. Using regedit....a. Start>Run then type in regedit (no need for .exe or .bat or anything)b. On my computer, the appropriate entries that must be deleted are found under:...1. HKEY_CURRENT_USER>SOFTWARE>Microsoft>Microsoft Games>Flight Simulator and ...2. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>Microsoft>Microsoft Games>Flight SimulatorIn both cases, I'd highlight the Flight Simulator entry in the left hand pane and then hit the DELETE key.3. ALT-X to close regedit.4. Reboot (this ensures that the Registry changes you just made actually go into effect.5. Defrag (probably not absolutely necessary, but you just created a huge gap in "contiguous files" on your disk, so packing the remaining files closely together can't hurt and should gain you some speed.)6. Reboot (probably not necessary, but I always reboot after a defrag - also, this finally ensures that you aren't running on any sort of backup version of the Registry [containing any reference to FS9] the next time you boot up.)All gone. Bye bye.

A quick look at that link suggests it works solely for MS OFFICE type products. Note I said a quick look. My solution will work with any program that has made a registry entry.YMMV as might your choice of solution.Whatever works.

Hi,Links have been moved around at MS. The best I could find is this:http://technet2.microsoft.com/WindowsServe...3.mspx?mfr=trueOr a regisrty cleaner that will remove entries.Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

Be aware that you should uninstall any addons before removing FS9. If you just delete the FS9 folder and remove the registry entries you may still have a ton of Addon registry entries left behind.Once you have finished (if going the manual route) run a registry cleaning utility (serveral times as some entries are reliant on others an may not be cleaned on initial run of reg utilitiy) to clean out redundant entriesCarlhttp://environments.flight1.net/gepro/GEPRO_BANNER_CARL.JPG

Thanks guys, I removed it, but it was a lot of going in to all the hidden files and directories as well and deleting stuff, then running reg mechanic and seeing that I had over 2000 reg errors after deleting FS9 and all the addons. This time when I reinstall, I'm keeping it simple.Jeff
