Tiling more apparent with GE Pro - help!

Recommended Posts

Guest ThrottleUp

I first started with BEV USA/Canada Summer. Got bitten by the texture-upgrade bug and then I got Ground Environment (GE) and now I just upgraded to Ground Environment Professional (GEP).All was was good with BEV & GE but then after I installed GEP I noticed the tiling was a LOT more obvious:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v630/Thr...ilingMedium.jpghttp://www.planet-smilies.de/kaos/CreamPuffKaos/pcrying.gifWhy would this be? I have followed all the instructions and have spent 4 hrs generating texture sets http://www.thesmilies.com/smilies/confused0088.gif I have full backups on CD of all my textures files so getting the sim back to what it was is not a problem but Im wondering why GEP is making texture tiling stand out so much?Prior to installing GEP the tiling was there but you would have to *really look* to see it. Now the land resembles a carpet and the ocean looks like a tiled bathroom floor!Would greatly appreciate any advice from GEP users or the FS9 gurus, I will hold off on restoring the backups for a bit...I've probably missed something but I could swear I followed instructions to the letter! Thanks very much :)

Hi,1. Make sure that you started with default FS04 textures.2. Pull your details1.bmp off your CD and place it in FS04. Sometimes that gets switched.3. Lower your visibility.Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

I have tried everything, I verified that I had followed the instructions - which I had. I verified I started from the base FS9 textures as well. I guess Im missing something but I do not know what.Well I didnt like the sim looking this way so I got rid of GE Pro and restored my backed-up BEV textures and now everything is good again :)

Hi All,Lets see here! If we are talking about the same texture being repeated over and over again then that is a Landclass issue. If the landclass calls for the grass texture then that is what is sent, over and over again. The fix for this is a more accurate landclass such as from FSG.If we are talikng about something else, like how the textures blend in the distance then that is something else.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

I just bought Ground Environment Pro. I want to make sure I set it up correctly. Did a search for details1.bmp on all four FS9 cds with no luck. Can someone tell me which disc it's on?Thanks

Hi Nevin!I have Ultimate Terrain, as well as GEPro with AS6 build 523 with FSGenesis landclass and mesh. I'm presently flying somewhere over Pennsylvania, 35000 miles high and I don't see anything like your screenie. In fact, as I think of it, I haven't seen a landscape like that in some time.Jim could be right. The difference could be related to landclass but I'm not sure, especially if you say you don't have this problem with BEV. Note that Ultimate Terrain also adds a lot to the visual difference.About how high in the air would you say that shot was taken?GEPro does repeat textures, but the variety and frequency seems to be a lot less uniform than what I see in your screenshot.Have you posted this issue over at the Flight1 forum?Ed Lin, D.O.S.

Hi,My fault. It should be detail1.bmp. Sorry, I don't know where it is. I have a second stock FS install on a laptop for default files.Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

Thanks for the clarification. I think that's a good idea. I also have an original untouched FS9 folder that I keep on my hard drive. I found the detail1.bmp file here drive:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9SceneryWorldtextureI've already installed GE Pro so I guess I can just drop this original file into the approprte folder(?)Thanks.

Thanks Ed Lin for your feedback! Its definetly given me something to chew on. The REALLY odd thing is that the cheaper and less-capable Ground Environment caused no such problems!....its only when the Pro version came along that the excessive tiling came into effect. Also you are correct: when I got BEV and applied it - it caused no such tiling problems.Im not angry anything, Im bummed that its not working for me, obviously a lot of work has gone into the program and others are not having this problem!*Sniff*Well time to scuttle around the sky for a bit, I will come back to texture-tweaking a little later! The other BEVs are tempting me already :( (I only have BEV USACanada Summer)

Nevin,I you want to give me an idea of where on the "planet" you took the screenshot and approx altitude, I can see if it looks similar on my rig. May not get a chance though till later this evening after candy grabbing folks die down. Ed Lin, D.O.S.
