Mark, I take your point (I really do!), but whatever you may think of Roy Chaffin, he is quite an artist, both on the panels and on canvas. I'm looking forward to his B25, I'm sure it will be great.

Yes. Just a pity, perhaps, that his release seems so obviously targeted to do maximum damage to the success of the MAAM version. Ah well, we all know the story. I spoke strongly in his defence some time ago when the vultures were out and nobody seemed to have a good word for him; but I could wish he'd chosen to go a different route with this forthcoming release. Anybody feel free to call me a dork if they feel like it, but why would anybody bother to make a freeware B25 when the upcoming MAAM-Sim version is so superb with (almost) every dime being targeted for such a worthy cause? I don't even feel like downloading this freeware version when it is available.. and I'm from Norway for heck's sake, and shouldn't even care about B25's - but I do. I really do. MAAM-Sim, I'm really looking forward to buy your download version of Briefing Time come March 1. Keep up your truly wonderful work! :)Regards,

In Roy Chaffin's defense, all I can say is he can do whatever the heck he pleases. Personally I don't fly bombers in FS2002 and really don't care to in the future but the guy has every right to upload his freeware. He has contributed many great panels to FS and should not be deterred from uploading anything regardless of conflicts with payware releases. Besides he ain't charging a cent. Most payware addons are ridiculously expensive costing almost what it cost to buy FS2002. Long Live Freeware!!Mike

Roy Chaffin was part of the MAAM-sim team. They split up in disagreement over anti-piracy features and ever since he's been trying to harm them. His B-25 release can only be meant to draw potential buyers away from the MAAM-sim release with the intent of hurting (or at least slowing) sales. While he is no doubt an excellent artist and the R4D panel in which he played a big part is a work of art he isn't the most sociable person.

I don't see how the availability of freeware is likely to take ANYTHING away from a payware release? In fact I suspect the opposite could also be argued - One downloads a superb freeware package, gets sucked into the appeal that is the B25 and then goes on to try and purchase the MAAM package because of the extra/different/alternative features. Those who are willing to pay for the MAAM are unlikely to be put off by the availability of the freeware version. The freeware version could achieve exactly what the sample release of the MAAM aircraft is also doing - raising interest and awareness of the project as a whole. Or are you also gong to argue that the MAAM sample release will also damage sales? If that were even in the slightest bit true, please explain why we have freeware 727's and payware 727's? Commmercial 737's from several different outfits and literally dozens of freeware efforts? ditto with 747, 767, 777 etc. etc. etc.Sorry, the reasoning makes no sense and sounds like an attempt to smear RCS for releasing something that happens to coincide with the release of a similar package from somewhere else. Can't you just enjoy it for what it is? Another B-25 Mitchell, a warbird released into a market saturated with boring, inane airliners.ChasW
