Pauses on final approach and how to solve them

Hi,still loving FS9... :) I like to fly heavy iron to big airports like Aerosoft's EDDF, but I would always get these horrendous stutters - or better - pauses on final approach when scenery gets loaded. It really ruins the approach... This is how I solved it:1. Get Recorder module 1.3 by Matthias Neusinger. It's right here in the library. 2. Position yourself at the treshold of rwy 07R, display the coordinates3. Create a new tower view in the recorder module and name it something like EDDF 7. 4. Edit this new tower view and change the coordinates to match your position at rwy 7.5. Save tower view6. Do the same for rwys 25Ok, now when you're coming in from a long flight and you're some 8-10nm from the rwy, simply switch to tower view - be sure to get your new EDDF tower view. It takes 2-3 seconds to load the scenery, then switch back to cockpit.That's it, silky smooth approach, because all the scenery has already been loaded. No more stutters, no more pauses. :)And, of course, this can be done for all big airports that are memory hungry.Regards,Jure

That makes sense and it's a smart work around the problem, which is the main reason I hardly use any addon scenery. After all I'm into flying the plane not looking at the terminals.

Coming in on finals, I just hit Shift-T and the scenery loads in a few seconds. Happy (smooth) landings. :-hah

I mapped the command to an extra button on my controller. It is a handy command which is not assigned in FS by default. It is great for dealing with blurry textures too.

John,I know about refresh scenery, but the problem with these huge add-on airports is that you have to be practically there for them to load. And, of course, that happens in the critical phase of the approach. :) Frankfurt is notorius for that (at least on my machine) and reloading scenery would have to be done very, very close to the runway. So by shifting to the tower view some 8 miles out does two things: First, it loads the scenery into memory and it will stay thre there because I am close enough.Second, it doesn't interrupt my approach. At least not that much than those horrible pasues on short finals. Not by far. Just reloading scenery wouldn't load the airport at that point, I am afraid.The bad thing is that I can't try it again because one of the hard disks in my Raid 0 array crashed today and I am left with no simulator. I hate, I really hate the thought of reinstalling everything. :(But I digress...Smooth landings to you as well! Make one for me, I am deprived of the pleasure for a while. :)Jure

I just completed a flight from Catania to Malta, flying the great little Yak-42 tri-jet.I thought I would try another approach to your idea Jure.I went to the Map and dragged the tower from my departure airport to my arrival airport by zooming out in Map view.Seemed to work well. Did a quick Tower view when turning to intercept the localizer and the complex (Aerosoft) Malta scenery loaded up.Very nice smooth approach and landing.Thanks again.

Looks promising this solution to the strutters during approach. I have a similar problem approaching SKBO (Colombia Virtual 2005)... any slideshow runs faster and smoother!Anyway, where is the option "Refresh Scenery"? In FS 2004 (just assign it from Control Settings?), in FSUIPC or in another utility? (Pardon the silly question :-shy)Thanks a lotLuis
