FS Load Time

Recommended Posts

Guest iFLYrc

My FS9 has been slow loading and getting worst. It now takes about 1 minute and 30 seconds to get to the main menu. Why does it take so long to load? Is there something I can do to speed up the load time?Do I have too many planes (over 200)?Thanks...

Come on, give Bob a break - he's entitled to be miserable with the rest of us- tweaking and re-tweaking FS, spending untold amounts on hardware upgrades and addons,OS updates, and wading through posts of people that have nothing better to do than say how bad FSX or how bad frame rates are or how the 3rd rivet on the left wing is misaligned, or any other numerous complaints ;-)Hey Bob, it's just that I remember you are a musician, and I have to stick up for fellow musicians, being one myself.Best,

I>thought I read a post many moons ago that you said yo were>leaving the flight sim world??>>>I must be thinking f someone else i guessNo that was me. I went over to a friends house that had installed FSX on his PC ( he is a flight instructor) and he wanted me to see what I thought. I flew it around for awhile and thought it was terrible and he had a brand new high end Dell PC with every upgrade you could imagine. It reminded me of FS9 on my old 230 MHX Pentium. Then to compare it, I went home and fired up FS9 and after much reading I got my Level D 767 running and flew it around a bit. Since then I fly about once a week, but no where near the time I used to spend on the computer. I was really surprised at how well FS9 was performing with all the add-ons I have all going, and how poorly FSX with just the default stuff and sliders turned down.

Let's just say, I am not the least bit tempted to get the "latest and greatest" :+

Hi,We were waiting to hear what a new fs9.cfg file would do. Have you tried it yet? Back up your old one first, of course. And yes, the more planes (and scenery and everything else) you add will add more time to the startup. You can help the time getting to the Select Aircraft menu (but not startup time) by hiding some of the aircraft you don't fly often (and all AI-only aircraft). BBQHide will do that.Hope this helps,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

Thanks for the reply. I backed up my FS9.cfg file and restarted FS9. Still over a minute to load.

If you have SquawkBox3 installed, I think it installs a directory called "vip" in your aircraft directory that has something like 2200+ visual models for other onine acft.Moving that to another directory when not in use really speeds things up for me.RegardsBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-V L-300Santiago de Chile

I just installed Squawkbox the other day and found the VIP directory. I moved the VIP folder to another directory and cut the FS9 load time down to about 40 seconds. Cut 1 minute of the load time. Thanks,Vic
