Problem with KATL AFCAD

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone:Not sure if this is the right forum -- so feel free to move it if I put it in the wrong place...Anyway, I've got a problem with runway 10 on my KATL AFCAD file. I downloaded it through Dakota Smith's KATL scenery available here in the library. FS can't see the ILS on runway 10 -- and therefore says "Visual runway 10...." in the ATIS. Runway 28 (and all the other runways) seem to be fine.I attached a few screenshots of RWY10 to this message... Is there something I should change in the AFCAD file to enable the ILS on this runway? Thanks in advance, all help is appreciated.

Anybody know if Jim Vile has a FS9 version of the KATL Afcad with 10/28?

And it's really a good one! Only thing you have to do is change the ILS frequencies in AFCAD on runway 1028 at Atlanta and change ILS 25 at Gwinnett County, which by default has the new freq for 28:Atlanta KATL10- 111.55 (IOMO)28- 111.75 (IPKU)Gwinnett Co. KLZU25- 1-9.95 (ITXP)These are from the d-TPP site for AIRAC 613

Is there a need to change anything? Do either of them not work as they should? If you have to change something, I'd only change the frequency for 28 and leave the stock arport alone.Just open up Afcad (afcad221.zip in the library), open the new KATL Afcad you just downloaded and try a simple change to 111.70 or 111.80.

I think the default KLZU ils is too close to KATL so the 2 interfere with each other. Just make an AFCAD for KLZU and change the ILS loc freq to 109.95 then save to your AFCAD folder.scott s..

Just open Jim's KATL file in AFCAD and edit the ILS for each airport. The problem is that in the default FS9 111.75, the ILS for new 28 at KATL, is the frequency for ILS 25 at Gwinnett County, which is 22 nm from KATL, so you won't get the 28 at ATL you'll get the ILS 25 at Gwinnett. Also, when Jim did this file in September 2005, the final frequencies for 1028 hadn't been assigned, so the freqs and Idents are wrong for current AIRAC cycles.See these links:For KATL ILS 28:http://avn.faa.gov/d-tpp/0613/00026IL28.PDFFor Gwinnett Co. ILS 25:http://avn.faa.gov/d-tpp/0613/05385I25.PDFFile size? The new file for Gwinnett county is 8kb in size. No change in Jim's KATL AFCAD file.Hope this helps.

And now on to the hundreds of other changes since FS9's release. :(My problem is not so much file size. Or even adding another file. But since there are so many things out of date, why not keep it simple and make a simple change like I suggested. Maybe it's just me. ;-)

Sure, you can do that, but then you'll have 111.75 active for 2 ILS approaches with 25nm of each other. I've never had that happen in FS so I'm not sure what would happen. Might cancel each other out or FS might read it as an AFCAD file conflict and crash, I don't know. Don't mind me, I'm just one of those "real as it gets" nuts and a fairly intense type A, or so my better half tells me... :-)

I installed Jim Viles ATL AFCAD and it is indeed very nice. Adds 10/28 which is cool. My problem is that it also adds a fictional ramp and terminal area between 10/28 and 9R/27L. I live in Atlanta, and that terminal area ISNT there. Perhaps its planned for the future. If I personally would like to install it...in the future. Its not accurate now.Eric
