Problem with a GPS icon.

The panel in question is in Mike Stone's Scottish Aviation Pioneer. I want to add a clickable icon & was advised to add the following at the last of the gauge entries under [Windows00] - SimIcons!GPS Icon, 180,540,90 The icon I want does not appear & I would appreciate knowing if I have done the right thing or not? Are you sure the location and size (125,485,90) actually work for this panel? The first number is typically the 'longitude' location on the panel (within the panel .bmp), the second is where it sits in regards to 'latitude', and the last one is the size of the gauge. Many times there are two size numbers.Many panels have 'holes' which allow the gauge to 'show through' the .bmp panel file, and if you do not have a 'hole', the gauge will be hidden 'behind' the panel's .bmp file.Other panels allow you to install gauges 'on top' of the panel .bmp file, but you must still have the correct location for it to show (have a space). The closest gauge I see with that location is the DME gauge #6, and the DME could actually be 'hiding' the icon you are trying to install.In addition, the last number, 90 indicates the size of the icon, and many times you have two numbers....one for width, and one for height. That 90 seems a bit large for an icon compared to the other gauges.All that said, I don't have the panel, so cannot help you directly, but hopefully some of the items I mentioned may help you identify the problem.

One thing you could try would be to 'rem out' the DME gauge by installing a couple slashes in front it, i.e. ///gauge06=xxxThis will remove the DME gauge (temporarily)from the panel. Now, use the same location numbers for the icon, and see if it replaces the DME gauge. If it does, then you know the icon will work, it is simply finding a space for it.When you find a location, remove the slashes in front of gauge #6, and you will have your DME back.

Yeah, that icon would fall directly under the DME, but at 90 pixels square you should theoretically be able to see it protruding beneath the DME. The problem is that XML gauges don't seem to scale properly using just the width to specify size the way compiled (.gau) gauges do, and when you try to do it that way, the gauge appears on the panel at it's native size (whatever size the bitmap is) and the native size of the GPS icon is 19 x 19. Therefore the GPS icon is completely hidden by the DME.Try this, the GPS icon should appear just to the left of the OMI lights and above the DME.gauge28=SimIcons!GPS Icon, 113,439That should put the icon on the panel, now whether the icon actually opens the GPS or not remains to be seen. Is the GPS window itself defined in the panel.cfg? You may need to copy and paste the GPS section from one of your default panel.cfg's before you can actually pull up the GPS with the icon.Jim

Do a search for Glenn Copeland at the AVSIM library. He has developed several useful gauges, and includes a quick tutorial on how they are located. I've installed several of his gauges, and it's relatively easy to do. You can use the existing gauges for a reference point, which is the upper left-hand corner of the gauge. Thanks guys. Since I posted this topic I've been trawling panel cfgs to see how it's done & it looks more complicated than I thought! I have got FS Panel Studio Demo to play with but I will look for Glen Copelnand's stuff. I need the tutorial! I'm grateful for your help!!TW.
