Find wind direction/magnitude at landing airport

Featured Replies

HiCould someone please tell me how do you find the above info when flight planning.I use radar contact 4 and it requires landing runway at setup-I normally choose the one in my flight direction-but the winds can be from any directions. As most rc4 user know rc4 does not offer alternate runway in favourof wind directions.Hopefully prior wind knowledge will help me choose the appropiate runway at destination airport.Qas :-0

You can also contact the destination airport and check the weather conditions.Part of the secret of success in life is to eat what you like -M.Twain

Getting Activesky6.5 from www.hifisim.com is my recommendation. Apart from being the best weather engine out there it will also give you metar info for departure and arrival and anywhere else. It's payware but well worth it. For a freeware alternative, even though you are flying offline why not get ServInfo from http://www.avsim.com/hangar/utils/servinfo/ which will also give you metars.Rob Elliott, EGPE InvernessPSS Airbus Support andAirbus Fleet Training Captain, British Airways Virtual [email protected]http://www.speedbirdonline.co.uk/airbus.htmlhttp://www.bavirtual.co.uk

Hi Rob'also give you metar info for departure and arrival and anywhere else'I have got active sky 6.5 ,where is this info dispalyed please.I use it with radar contact 4 and I am always vectered to runways with xwinds etc.Looking forward to your help.Qas

When you first click the Active Sky icon to open the program, click on "New route". Enter your flight plan to get weather for T/O, en route and destination. (this will also load custom textures if you have Ground Environment Pro set up for it.) Alternatively, enter your destination ID where it says "fetch a report" then click fetch.Of course; just as in real life; on lengthy flights the weather at your destination may change if you use updates.Best Regards, Donny :-waveFLYing? It's cool. Trillions of birds and insects can't be wrong.

Hi,Or enable FlightWatch and tune a Comm to 127.00. Works with a flight plan so that FW knows your destination airport. Keep in mind that all of these will just give you the wind direction and not the active runway as ATIS would. A chart is handy then!Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

Jim by "enable" flight watch do you just mean tuning it in?Either way this is good news, didn't know we could do that.

Hi,By enable I mean in AS Options check On the Voice ATIS/Flightwatch box. Then you tune 127.0 in FS04 to hear FlightWatch.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

You don't have to choose a landing runway when you setup Radar Contact. If you leave it blank you will be given the active runway when you contact arrival at 40 miles out or give your RC copilot comms and they will get the airport weather at 50 miles out. either way you will find out your runway in plenty of time to get your aircraft set up for it. hope this helps. Will
