Active Sky with Flight and Ground Environment PE

Recommended Posts

Prior to today, I was only using Flight Environment and Ground Environment Pro. Today, I added Active Sky. My question is how do they work together? Does Active Sky replace all of the Flight Environment's clouds? Or, do I load Active Sky first and then go into Flight Environment and load the Flight Environment clouds? How do they work together? There are some great Ground Environment Pro tutorials but none (I have found) for Active Sky.Thanks,RH

Hi,The important thing to remember is that the last textures loaded will be the ones that FS will use.You are the final decision maker!Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

Thanks for your response! I see that you were on the Active Sky Development Team. From what you are saying, can I just set up Active Sky and to get relevant weather data and then run Flight Environment (which looks like it has better clouds)?RH

Hi,At this point there are so many different combinations you could use due to the bit of overlap of ASG FE and GEP. Let me see if I can list them!:FE is the only one with water textures so that is easy.FE has clouds and ASG has clouds.FE has halo lights as does ASG.GEP has sky textures as does ASG.I think you are leaning toward:1. Run FE for water and clouds. Close it.2. Run AS and get the weather.3. Enter a plan to trigger GEP for your ground textures and sky textures.4. Keep AS running!5. Start FS. Thanks for taking the time to give me your response. I will print it out and use the programs that way.First, Active Sky really makes a difference. There has been a significant decrease in weather transition effects, which is good, since in the default MSFS weather, you could go from mostly cloudy to clear skys in less than a second. AS makes this effect seem much more real. Are the clouds in Flight Environment and Active Sky the same quality and variety? If not and FE > AS, would running AS after FE use those less quality clouds (again, assuming the AS ones are of less quality that the FE ones)? Thanks,RH

Hi,Quality is very subjective. AS offers 4 details of clouds 64, 128, 256, and 512 in both 32 bit and DXT3 format.AS long as you are not manually submitting AS clouds or using Auto Submit, then AS is not going to submit any clouds and your FE clouds will still be in place.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

GEPro doesn't do sky textures. Ground textures only. It shades the ground textures according to different sky conditions (which is gets from AS)

Hi Max,In your GEP main folder do you have a sub folder called Sky Texture Sets?On your AS options page, under Graphics, do you have the option Force Sky: GE Pro ASG?Have you generated any Sky sets in GEP?Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
