"F2" reverser question

Recommended Posts

Guest tpower

Colleagues, sorry to ask what may be an ignorant question.... When I land a jet or turboprop and press F2 to reverse, does it matter where my throttle (Saitek) is set? Should I touchdown and max throttle, then press F2 for max reverse thrust? Similarly, if I cut to idle then press F2 am I only getting min reversal? What I'm asking is: is the amount of reversal engaged by F2 linked to the throttle position?I'm no newbie, but I have a horrible feeling I've been overlooking something here,Thanks to anyone who can clarifyTosh:-shy

Your throttle(s) must be at idle to use the TRs. F2 will deploy the TRs and increase reverse thrust as you hold it down or repeatedly press the key. Also, it's important that your throttle is calibrated so that the throttles give a true zero value at idle. There should be a small dead zone at both the top and bottom of the throttle travel so that minor pot noise doesn't spike the throttle axis to a value other than full-scale.RegardsBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VSantiago de Chile

On my Saitek X45, I have F2 set on my 4-way POV 3 switch (on the throttle). So I can close the throttle and hold the POV to get reverse thrust. I then "blip" the throttle to get out of it. As Bob said you need a dead zone at close throttle so you don't accidently come out of reverse thrust.scott s..

If you are using the keyboard, press F1 once to close the throttle and the then hold down F2.Some add-on aircraft are a bit more sophisticated than that - ie the Aeroworx Beech 200 requires that you have prop pitch fully forward before reverse will engage - but there is a warning light on approach if you aren't configured properly.

Thanks Bob & Scott!I was actually doing things right all along.... thinking too much I suppose. On my X45 I have the F2 assigned as a "repeat" function mapped to the D Fire button. So I cut throttle, engage F2 and indeed, blip out with the throttle at the end of rollout. Reassuring input, thanks guys,Cheers,Tosh

Important note - does the aircraft have reverse thrust enabled in the aircraft.cfg file? For piston and turboprop aircraft look in the Propeller section for prop_reverse_available=1For jets - look in the TurbineEngineData section for reverser_available=1For those sections - 0 = FALSE (no reverse) & 1 = TRUE (reverse available)Also - under GeneralEngineData section check the min_throttle_limit= value. It needs to be a negative number for a turbine engine reverser to work (jets and turboprops).
