Wideview, WideFS uses

I'm considering getting Wideview and or WideFs. I have an older computer I networked to my main. Any thoughts on what are the best uses of these two programs to get the most out of FS9?I want to get a flight planner (FSBuild, FSnav etc), and maybe Active sky etc..What else would be benificial?Also any good links on how to set this up would be great.Thanks

Hi,Both are very different applications:Wideview is used to replicate FS2004 on another PC, so you can have an extra view (outside/panel/whatever) on your 2nd PC.It does require you to install FS2004 incl all sceneries etc on that 2nd PC.WideFS is used to run add-ons on a 2nd PC, which run outside the FS process, like ActiveSky, Squawkbox, FSCommander, Radar Contact, FlightDeck Companion etc.I use WideFs for the above mentioned apps. Advantage is that they don't use FS2004 resources/CPU cycles and are always visible (i.e. not hided by FS).

Someone passed on a tip to me about a program called MaxiVista. I checked it out and bought it 30 mins. after trying the demo. It allows you to turn any two or three computers that are networked into a server and client(s). I love it.I looked into it for Flight Sim and bought it because of business. Besides extending your screen to the other computers it allows you to use a single keyboard and mouse to operate the other computers. I use two computers in my office. The floor model is used for AutoCad and multimedia files. I also have a notebook that sits on my desk. I use this for all my business files. MaxiVista allows me to use the same keyboard and mouse to work on either. All I do is drag the cursor from one screen to the next. I can copy something in the clipboard and then paste it onto the other computer

Wideview confuses me a bit. Do you need a physical, "patch cord" connection between the video card on the client and your second monitor, or is everything handled through the LAN? My assumption was that everything would be handled through the LAN.I got the demo working on both my computer and my wife's (which only has a one output vid card built into the motherboard), but the slewed view showed up on HER monitor, and I could not for the life of me figure out how to change the settings so that it would show up on my second monitor. I know this is a basic and probably dumb question but I swear I've been over the documentation and now on the website for over an hour, and I can't quite figure this simple thing out. :-badteethThanks.Chuck b.KPHL, KVAY

I'm reading up on these various topics also, but I am a liitle confused still, that's why I posted this. I currently have my Server and Client connected straight to the the modem/router so they comnucate through the modem/router. I'm not sure if this is the best way to hook it up.So basically I would like to run, planners, active sky,maps etc on the second so I'm leaning toward WideFS. And since I'm running FS9 I hope this stays in this forum even though I'm sure it could get transfered.

By placing Active sky on the Client does this free up resources on the Server, making FS9 run smoother than if they were both on the same machine?

I just looked at the maxivista site. I have seen this before but forgot about it.I will try the demo. It looks like it is easier to use than Wideview?

Does MaxVista have the ability to completely syncronize two FS9 programs running the same flight scenario on different computers? That's the advantage to me of WideView.Chuck B.KPHL, KVAY

When you run Maxivista are you running FS9 in full screen mode or windowed mode?

I'm not running it at all -- I was just asking. From what I read about MaxiVista it allows acess to your desktop from multiple computers, which can be handled quite adequately by several freeware programs out there. But WideView actually syncs two (or more) versions of MSFS running on different computers, allowing you to run different views, windows, etc. on multiple monitors within the same virtual flight, thereby spreading the CPU requirements needed for those multiple views among the different computers.WideView is $15.00 cheaper and the developer is very knowledgeable about MSFS's particular nuances. Plus I've bought other products from him and I know that he's very responsive (that is, when he's not out of the country on holiday like he is now :-) ).Best regards!Chuck B.KPHL, KVAY

Don't run wideview, but what I understand is you install FS9 on both computers. While running, one computer is the master, and that one takes all the keyboard, controller, etc inputs. The slave just displays.WideFS, OTOH, provides an FSUIPC interface on the client PC, so anything that interfaces to FS9 via FSUIPC can also run on the client PC. I have run various programs on the client, including Active Sky, AISmooth, FSM Moving Map, Map 3.1, FS Real Time, Pocket FMS. I like it best for moving map programs.edit;I should add that originally the server-client connection was oriented towards Novell netware LANs, but now I imagine everyone just uses the TCP/IP interface. After the initial load of weather AS has very little influence. What most users like is a second screen to view AS in all it's glory!
