CTD in the mountains (?)

Recommended Posts

Guest rjspeleton

In my FS2004 I have UT (USA only), numerous scenery add-ons as well as Active Sky 6 and GE pro. My video card is Nvidia's GeForce FX 5900 Ultra 256 mb. My system uses a Pentium IV 3.6 gig with 2 gb of memory and Directx 9. Everything runs great except in the cascade mountains of the Seattle area, the mountains of western France and most recently, in the Alps between Geneva and Northern Italy. For no apparent reason, FS9 crashes to desktop, again only in these mountainous areas. Now I also just added FSGenesis mesh for Europe including the nicely done Alps but this CTD problem exsited before that and before GE pro and Active sky 6, I was actually kind of hoping the addition of the new mesh would solve the problem. I have researched this forum and others for a close answer but have not seen one that comes close to addressing just how what the problem may be or how I can go about soliving it short of....gulp... re-installing my FS9 and all its components. If anyone has a possible solution or even a direction toward a solution I would definately appreciate it, until then no flights for me in these beautiful ranges . Thanks!

Make sure you have the FS9.1 update installed...before the patch, there were seasonal CTDs triggered in the Spring/Fall...most notable in areas (like the mountains) where there were areas of partial snow cover. This old problem seems to reoccur when people reinstall FS9 and either forget to patch with 9.1, or the patch does not completely finish, leaving unpatched files. One other way to check for the seasonal CTD, if you have a location that consistently CTDs, is to change to a date in mid-winter or mid-summer and try it there. If you do have the update installed (check the file versons to be sure the patched files are actually installed), then I'd be looking for duplicate AFCAD file(s).RegardsBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VSantiago de Chile

Bob's suggestions are spot on. In addition, if they don't work, simply disable all your addon AFCADS to see if a flawed user-supplied AFCAD is the culprit. (Speaking from experience...)Good luck,Mike
