I messed up file association need help

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, I just opened up my fs9 cfg file as I've done a thousand times and accidently left the box checked for opening up all the time with notepad. Now all my cfg related files are notepad files. How do I revert back to the other way, what ever that setting may have been? I need to make this apply to all files on my c drive. I pray someone can give me an easy solution. My system restore is turned off, so that's not an option. Thanks for any help here. I am such an idiot.

Jeff, try using windows explorer under Tools, then Folder Options then "File Types" and scroll for *.cfg. That's where you can change it to whatever you want.Having said that, I don't believe that you messed up anything. I'm using WinXP Home and all this did was that every file with the extension *.cfg will be opened by notepad, nothing else will happen. BTW, I do have it set to open *.cfg files automatically with notepad as I like to tweak a lot ;-)Hope this helps,Petehttp://members.aol.com/pzsoulman/myhomepage/logo.gifGIGABYTE Light 3D Galaxy II Liquid CoolingENERMAX Galaxy EGA850EWL ATX 850W Power SupplyNVIDIA nForce 680i SLI ATX Intel MoboCore 2 Duo E6700 1066MHz FSB 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775CORSAIR XMS2 2GB SDRAM DDR2 800GeForce 8800GTX 768MB 384-bit GDDR3 PCI ExpressSBlaster X-Fi XtremeMusic 7.12 x Western Digital Raptor 150GB 10000 RPM 16MB Cache SATA Raid01 Seagate Barracuda 320GB 7200RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/sWinXP Home SP2CH Yoke/Pedals

Pete, good to know no harm done, and thanks for the tip. I will give it a shot. I tweak alot to, but like to choose to open it up with notepad rather than all the time. I guess I wanted to be sure FS9 wouldn't run any differently having it this way. Sounds good to me knowing you use it this way. Thanks again.
