How does FS9 operate under Vista?

I'll be upgrading my computer next week (ordering the parts tommorow morning) and I was curious to see if I should install Vista on the computer... my laptop has it, and I really like it. However I don't know how FS9 (and other games) fare with it.... This is more of my 'gaming' computer, so.... I know the only benefit I can think of is the DX10, but can't think of anything else.

I installed Vista, and after about a week, I'm back to XP. I use my computer solely for gaming (mostly Battlefield 2 and FS9/FSX). Both flight sims behaved poorly with Vista. Battlefield 2 also did not fair so well. My games work a lot better with XP! However, my problems with Vista lie mostly with my video card - an Nvidia 8800 GTX. Nvidia has yet to figure Vista out, so until they do and release a driver worthy enough to handle the likes of Vista, I'm going to be using XP for a while...

I see...I'm going for the same GFX card in a few months, so your post is enough for me right now... stick with XP! :)

I disagree with the above post - I have a C2Duo with Vista Business and FS9 & FSX -- both perform BETTER in Vista than in XP. Frame rates are slightly lower than XP I think - but still in the mid 40s on all planes except PMDG's 744 (that one is in the 20s).FS runs better because Vista manages its memory better - keeping FS in the cache as frequently as possible. Ex. It took about 20-25 seconds to fire up FS9 in XP, but it takes < 5 seconds to get it running in Vista. I haven't had FS9 crash on me in Vista (I never it had it crash in XP either though.)If you have a choice - I would go with XP - just because there are fewer hassles. Emir; If you already have a copy of XP you can transfer over to the new PC, I think you're way ahead right now to keep that and wait at least another 6-12 months for the driver issues, DX10 etc to sort themselves out. May be an even better idea to wait for the 64-bit way ahead to become clearer. Unless you like being a pioneer...which means hacking your way through the jungle while everyone else is moving with ease on a paved road.Not sure I agree about Vista being better at memory management, either.
