I just recieved 2 -e-mails from the same person attempting to give me a virus. They came as attachments, and also contained A screenshot from fs2002. This is why I am posting this here. It came to the E-mail address that I use here, and not at my website. I have sent Mails off to all companies listed in the Header, and hopefully they will soon be deactivated.ThanksAl

Very strange. The last few days, I've been getting emails from people I don't know with no text and two attachments, 1 being a .jpg and the other either a .scr or .pif. I assume their viruses so I delete them right away. What's even weirder is that I've also gotten about 2 dozen "Internet mail delivery- delivery notification: delivery has failed" messages. It would appear my system was trying to send emails, but there is nothing in the sent folder.Thinking my system might be infected, I ran Norton 2003 (current update) FixKlez and McAfee stinger (current version). No viruses or anything else was found. I still get these "delivery" emails though. If anyone has any insight I'd appreciate it.

The "delivery failed" problem need not be a virus. It could also be that someone is using your e-mail address through an anonymized IP address to send out spam. That happened to me a couple of years ago and I got over 2000 of those "can't deliver" messages before the pipe finally ran dry. Turned out it was some guy trying to sell metal detectors and maps of Civil War battlefields through a P.O. Box. What a bummer that experience was. Your ISP may be able to help you identifying the source of the messages.Trip

The 2 Irecieved today were a variant of the W32.Klez worm.It was definatly a direct attack on me since the Emailer attempted to Spoof his identity when he sent them Twice. The sad thing is that I have a Great feeling who the sender is, and if it turns out to be who I suspect I will go public about him.Only time will tell I guess...Al

Hello All,Well this is nothing new . . .as for the past year I get e mails with FS topics that I have never discussed sent from people I don't know which almost every time, my puter tells me they have a virus . . .it seems that someone is using our forum to send out his happy e mails . . . this is a felony, if done on purpose, however proving that is quite difficult. My advice . . . if you don't know the individual or it does not contain a topic you have been discussing, don't open it.....and for heavens sake, DO NOT OPEN ANY EXE FILE THAT YOU DON'T KNOW EXACTALY WHAT IT IS.Best to allClay

If it's really Klez coming from an infected computer, the "Return-Path:" field in the message header is usually accurate. The "From:" field is generally always bogus. If that's what's going on, the person at "Return-Path:" generally has no idea that the messages are going out. The worm is just sending them to people in his address book. A polite message suggesting he check his computer is generally the best action to take.- BobThe StickWorkshttp://www.stickworks.com

I haven't discussed "A-6E" to anybody (except maybe to myself while I'm sleeping) in over 6 months, and that was the subject line in my daily e-mail virus today...Rick Sasala

Most newer viruses/trojans don't even need an external email program to work anymore: they come with their own tiny, built-in SMTP servers. Once you've been infected (usually from another Outlook user), most of these payloads will scan your address book (Windows Address Book or Outlook Address Book the two most common) and send infected email to every one of those addresses. It does this internally without using any external email programs (and of course, completely hidden).Alternately, if you've been infected with a backdoor trojan, you're box may be comprimised and being used by an outsider directly. Let me stress that either of these scenarios are only a *possibility*, not a guarentee. A thousand and two benign things could be happening on your system - or something nefarious: its too hard to tell without being there.Since you say you've scanned your system for viruses and trojans already, the behaviour you are seeing seems mighty strange. I'd verify your .dat files in your virus programs are fully up to date and do a system wide scan again. And just in case they are cloaked in some fashion, a good idea might be to boot from the Norton CD directly and do a commandline scan.Good luck,Elrond---Not enough bandwidth to display this signature! Don't reformat hard drive? (Y/N)
