Weather radar not included from top developers?

Recommended Posts

I read many support forums from quality vendors and when the question concerning "weather radar" is asked, the answer is almost a cliche'. Either a simmer or the developer will repeat the montra that "it's not accurate and we don't want to see the overall fidelity of our sim reduced". Well.... phooey :)If the airplane is delivered with radar and terrain guidance then the simulated version should have it. Arguments from some developers are "it's inaccurate" and "it drags the fps down" and "there are 3rd party developers who offer them". Ya... that looks really good stuffing WX500 into a panel when the ND is supposed to integrate weather. My argument is, the accuracy is good enough to add to the immersion of the sim; optimize your code so that it doesn't suck all the FPS out. :) My point is that the weather radar is as good as the simulated weather and i.e. the simplified math models for calculating lift etc. Arguing that it drags down the fidelity is ludicrous. It adds immensely to the immersion and awareness of the world outside. If you are going to compete as a top developer of high fidelity airplanes, then include fundamental systems for weather and terrain guidance. I am very reluctant to buy a top tier add-on that is missing a key avionic piece not integrated. Is that the maddog2006 there? I agree that if the real aircraft being modeled has it, the sim should have it. Were the forums saying that HAVING the WX radar was inaccurate (i.e. the plane doesn't have it) or were they saying that the way WX radar works in FS9 means that it isn't very accurate, and thus they don't bother to include it because it doesn't work well.

The argument is the latter. In the post above, I'm flying an auto-land in minimum visibility conditions. Should I have to go around, I know the weather should not be a factor in the missed approach. The terrain display ensures I'm aware of the surrounding terrain for the climb out. It really comes in handy at KPDX. :) And yes it is the Maddog 2006.Bob...
