Poor performance....ace laptop!

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,Just got my new laptop.... Core 2 duo 2.33ghz, Geforce 7950 GTX, 4gb RAM and Vista. So I've installed FS9 and FSX but i'm getting very poor performance even with mediocre settings (c.10 fps on ground). Also, when I manage the AA settings etc in the Nvidia control panel it doesn't seem to affect the FS display, neither when using rivatuner.I notice from dxdiag that my laptop is running DX10...I read that the 7950 isn't compatible with DX10 so is this the cause of the lack of performance? If so, how do i uninstall 10 and go back to 9C??BRHenry

Unfortunately, it has never been my experience that you can go back to a previous version of Direct X. The ONLY way that you can, would be to format your hard drive and install any version of XP.Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Also, you might try updating your video driver suite with one right off of nVidia's site. In most cases, Lap Top drivers are tweaked by the Lap Top's manufacturer, which might not be the 'tweak' you need to run simulation software.Mitch

Hi I don't believe you can "go back" to 9C under Vista (as far as I know). As for your cards performance you might go to Nvidia's web site and down load the latest drivers for Vista and see if that helps.Your card is fine for FSX it's Vista that is the "problem" in that drivers are still a problem under Vista. In fact that's why a large number of people run dual boot systems (XP/Vista)due to the hassle of finding drivers that are stable under Vista.Dan Martin Team Flight Ontario.

Not sure about laptops but I know on my desktop system even with the QC, my system was sub par (for what I expected) until I put my 8800 GTS in it (had a 7800GTX before),The 7800GTX was a real bottle neck for mt QC.Sounds like you have an awesome laptop for gaming though. I love my Gateway 7510GTX with it's 256MB X600 Radeon.

I have Vista 32and DX 10 with a 7950 GTX running on a Core Duo 2.33 2mb (Dell XPS M1710) and it flies...almost literally. FSX demo is very smooth too.First think to check is your performance profile. Laptops don't necessarily run at 100% all the time unless you tell them too.I do have the same issue with the AA settings though. I'm using the FS AA option. No affect on performance. It is worth pointing out that an old Radeon 9800SE isn't maxed out by FS9. It 90% CPU and 10% graphics. If you have poor performance 9 times out of 10 it is because you are lacking CPU capacity.
