What has FSX done to our hobby ??

I have not seen a good or even an exciting release in months except for imaginesims kmci for FS9. I have installed FSX 2xs and removed it 2xs since all my money and performance is with FS9.What gets me is that the frequency of new releases for FS9 has been greatly diminished since FSX came on board. I hope all you wonderful and talented developers know that we FS9 users are strong in numbers and that your efforts will not be wasted.My ThoughtsAndy

Like it or not, the future in terms of the big time third party developers is moving on the 'FSX train'.I use FSX, and it is still a part of 'our hobby', just as FS5 was over 4, or 98 over 5....etc etc.

FSX just sort of threw everyone off balance I guess. It's split the community and in some cases required developers like PMDG to go back and create two versions of MD-11 because FSX isn't viable with complex add-ons yet, delaying a product already a year late. However there are a few bright spots to keep in mind: VR Simulations's F/A-18 and AirSimmer's A320 series. Those will probably both be out before the year is up, the VR Hornet maybe even this month though I doubt it. I also mention AXP's A320 but I don't think they're going to be out for a long time, definitely not this year apparently. But it is going to be a huge leap forward. And of course PMDG's MD-11, but I'm not expecting that this year either. So it has been pretty crappy but there are still some bright spots out there.

Yep, many aircraft are being designed for both, which is helping to slow down the process.

Good post, Andy!I totally agree with you. I'm sure that all of us (FS9) users would buy an FS9 edition of 'Acceleration', if offered at the same $30.00.You know, pylon racing, a working carrier, etc.The main thing is that you are right about a strong and still vibrant FS9 base.Cheers,Mitch

>>>What has FSX done to our hobby ??Im my opinion nothing, but brought the hobby up a notch in visuals and what not, now was it brought out too soon, regarding to the hardware available, i have no comment on that...For me at least both sims have their own value, good and bad points.. and get enough use to enjoy both pretty satisfactory.

As someone sticking with fs2004, I wish developers would keep working on fs9 add-ons, but I can't blame them one bit for moving on. Development times are long, and who knows what the market will be like by the time products are actually done. What is frustrating is when devs take products in progress and scrap them or delay them to work in the new sim. It is sad to think that fs2004 will only have a limited life. We can't keep away progress forever. Right now though, I have no urge to upgrade at all. I have fs2004 running quite smoothly now, and I have no wish to start the process over again.

Sounds like you've been away for a>while.:-) I AM ON HERE DAILY ....I SHOULD OF BEEN MORE SPECIFIC STATING advanced a/c like a new and updated commercial crj,757,erj,BUS320 etc....Sceneries have slowed down as well but not like advanced aircraft.All I really see on the AVSIM headlines are FSX updates and New releases for FSX but very limited FS9 releases.I wish PMDG released say an advanced 757 to FSX and FS9 as separate releases and my bet FS9 would generate more revenue as of today. As much as I'd prefer to stick to one version for the sake of simplicity, I am basically compelled to develop for FS9 and FSX.I'm still amazed that I move significant numbers of FS9 product after all this time, but as has been stated before FS9 is still a very good sim.I personally wonder if some simmers are suffering from "FS Burnout" in the sense that FS2004 was so good, was around for so long and was truly a watershed version of FS... I wonder if people are maybe just a bit 'worn-out' after FS2004. Bryan
