garmin 500

Recommended Posts

I've used every configuration of words to attempt to "search" for the answer to this question. How can I assign the buttons on my external(n52) keypad to work the Garmin 500 GPS? In the Learning Center it says "keys can be mapped-see 'using the keyboard' which did not help. Is the only way to go by purchasing FSUIPC, or am I just not looking in the right places?hope this is the right forum!!thanks for any help! skip

"How can I assign the buttons on my external(n52) keypad to work the Garmin 500 GPS?"I'm curious why you would want to complicate a relatively simple operation (using the default G500)?Most of us just use it as it came out-of-the-box without incident.P.S. I could not find the Keyboard Mapping item you state is in the Learning center.

Skip'dTo get any keyboard to work (ie to enter an ICAO (or waypoint etc) code eg KSEA) with the default GPS you need to click on the cursor (with the mouse button) you then need to select one of the plus signs ie the one which highlights the first letter/number in the display window. (Selecting the other + button will take you to the next window and the keyboard won't work.)Once that fist number/letter is highlighted you can use the keyboard to input the code. It takes a bit of practice but its much fater than using the + or - on the control.Hope this helpsPeter Hayes

thank for the quick reply Bill:The passage I was curious about in readimg the Learning Center article is "Using the GPS""Using the Keyboard" if you prefer you can use the keyboard to control the knobs and buttons on the GPS units. There are no keyboard shortcuts assigned by default, but you can map them yourself. To learn more see "using the keyboard" I thought it might be an interesting concept to use the Nostromo n52 I have,to use thekeys to replace using the mouse to press the 'proc' 'terr' 'fpl''clr''ent' etc.keys on the garmin.I think I read that this is possible in 'FSUIPC', but I'm wondering if it can be done alternatively. Any thought or input greatly appreciated!

Look at Keyboard Assignments - Under the Control Settings. There are 18 GPS commands which can be assigned to the keyboard, or yoke/joystick buttons in FS2004.
