A TileProxy "Quick Guide" is now online...

Recommended Posts

Hi all, just a quick note. If you've been considering trying out Christian Buchner's revolutionary freeware FS program "TileProxy" but felt a bit intimidated by the setup, or haven't heard of it yet, I've created a "Quick Guide" that may help de-mystify the setup and use of the program. Check it out here: http://www.edtruthan.com/tileproxy/7.2http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/184735.jpgView of TP Beta 7 and FS9 over Hamilton, MontanaMore screenshots of Tileproxy and FS9 may also be viewed here:http://www.edtruthan.com/tileproxy/and here:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...g_id=2647&page=Visit the Avsim TP forum here:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...forum=284&page=Also just for the record, even after installation TP now allows you to boot FS9 as normal if you prefer so you may fly with the default textures or other normal addons as well, thus you won't be fundamentally altering your default FS9 install by trying the program.Happy Landings! -Ed Truthan

Thank you very much for this :) I am one of those that was not quite sure of setting TileProxy up and so far I've only spent time looking at screenshots like the one you posted thinking "Wow".However I have to say your instructional site has given me push I needed to give it a try. Great work, thanks for sharing!!

Just a quick note to everyone. I noticed I had referred to the "ProxyUser.ini" as the "TileProxy.ini" in several spots in the Quick Guide. I've corrected those entries. Sorry if they caused any confusion.-Ed

I recently downloaded TileProxy (for FS9), and installed it. However, when I try to start the program, it says that it cannot find FLTLIB.DLL.FS9 works great, so it's not like I'm missing an important file. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Thanks!

Hmmm. To answer two questions at once:Newf, A Google search for fltlib.dll shows that it's a part of Windows Vista "Filter Library". Why you get the error with TileProxy I'm not sure. There is apparrently an XP SP2 hotfix concerning Windows Filter Manager files which includes fltlib.dll at: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/914882 and one for Windows 2000 at:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/914882 but I haven't had the time to study them. Try posting the question in the TileProxy forum at:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=284&page= Maybe Christian Buchner, TileProxy's author has an idea for you. He's pretty active on the forum with help. If I come up with more answers I'll let you know. And 247, YES, TileProxy is a global program. It's only limited by the texture resolution available for the area you wish to fly, which you can check first with the online map services TilProxy uses. There are links to these in my Quick Guide.

I started the installation on FS9 and noticed that the installer warned that the scenery.cfg file would be modified. Is that the case with FS9? If so, is it restored by the uninstaller? I presume it's wise to backup the scenery.cfg file regardless. Any advise on this subject? Thanks.

It' probably always a good idea to back up any scenery.cfg or FSX/FS9.cfg just as a precaution when installing anything to an FS installation but to answer your question, yes TP must alter your FS9 scenery.cfg in order to add the scenery entries that will provide entries for TP's ground textures. There are alot of them and they look like this:[Area.211]Title=WORLD_0000Local=C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesTileProxy Photoreal World0000Layer=211Active=TRUERequired=FALSERemote=For the record the TP Manual states:"I provide an uninstallation option for the project. This should restore your fsx.cfg and scenery.cfg to the state before TileProxy was installed. All caches and the "TileProxy Photoreal World" folder will be deleted. The uninstallation may take some time, in particular if you have downloaded a lot of graphics data during flight."Though Christian only mentions the FSX scenery.cfg in that paragraph, I assume it also pertains to FS9 because there is a "Scenery.CFG.TileProxy.BAK" file in my FS9 root folder that is dated the time of my last install. Be aware though, as Christian mentions in a previus TileProxy forum post:"If you installed addons after tileproxy (e.g. scenery, etc) that modified either fsx.cfg or scenery.cfg, a tileproxy uninstallation would also revert the changes the additional addons made."You could circumvent this problem down the line should you have installed additional scenery and wanted to remove TileProxy, by removing only the TileProxy entries via the Scenery Library interface first and then back that up. After TP uninstalls use your backed up version and you'll have retained any scenery added after your TP install.Any further questions can be directed to the author at the TP forum at: http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...forum=284&page=

An online version of the TP Manual is available here: http://edtruthan.com/tileproxy/manual.htmThanks to CB for letting me post an HTML version online. There are links at the head of the document for quick access to each Sections/Topics in the Manual. I will update this online version as new TP updates are released. Thanks again Christian for revitalizing and revolutionizing the FS experience.-Ed
