Too Low ATIS Frequency

Recommended Posts

My local airport KAVP has an ATIS frequency of 111.6. It appears lower than all the other ones I've seen. Sure enough, when I try to tune it in I can't because the COM radio only goes as low as 117. Therefore I can never get my local ATIS. Is there anything else I can do? Thanks. :-)

That is a VOR frequency from which you can still listen to the ATIS.Not sure if you can in FS2002--but in real life you can simply turn on the speaker for the VOR and listen to the ATIS while filtering out the morse code Identifier. I know--its sort of ancient and outdated but some places still use it.VOR frequencies run from 108.00Mhz-117.90Mhz while voice frequencies start at 118.00Mhz and go up to 136.00Mhz. Localizer or ILS frequencies will always be the odd frequencies in the VOR band--ie. 108.3 or 111.55 while VOR frequencies will always be the even frequencies in the band. Just some trivia for ya.Like I said--I'm not sure you can hear the voice comms over the NAV freqs in FS2002--but you can in real life.AQ

You can contact ground and they should be able to give you the ATIS also.

The ability to monitor voice transmissions over a VOR would be a real step up in realism. I hope it's planned for CoF.

In FS2002 unfortunately, it is not possible to listen to VOR-frequency ATIS, I don't know why MS built it this way. But, if you purchase Activesky WRXE, the new 1.6 update has a voice atis function. It translates any real life METAR from the cycle to voice during flight, if the frequency is switched to 122.0. Brilliant!
