FSBuild flight plan and Level D FMC confusion...

Recommended Posts

Below is a part of a flight plan (from KLAS to KLAX) generated by FSBuild. I am trying to figure out what to place where in my Level D FMC. I first place LODZY into the TO column on the right. That works. But when I try to place the IDALE2 into the VIA column, it states, "Invalid Entry." Is IDALE2 not a jet way or air way? How do I place this flight plan into my FMC (flightplan data entry) so it works?Thanks,RHTO NM AWY M/C TAS G/S ZT ACTME ETA ATA ACBO ABO REM AREM N3604.5/W11513.3 257 CLB 000000 LAXLODZY 003 IDALE2 257 180 180 00/01 00/01 .../... 0000/... 0021/... Looks like you need to read the manual or for a shortcut go to the level dsim website and download the new graphical FMC tutorial. Its all there. Basically waypoints go in the TO field, Airways go in the Via field.Mark.

I have used the Level D FMC correctly on a few tutorials, and it has worked like a champ. I got FSBuild today and ran it (LAS to LAX). My question is (based on your comment and my previous post) is IDALE2 an Airway? If I am reading the FSBuild output correctly, then IDALE2 is indeed an Airway and goes in the Via field. However, when I try it, it tells me its invalid.Thanks,RH

IDALE2 is an old RNAV Departure Procedure (DP). I believe it's been replaced by the BOACH2 RNAV DP.Your flight plan most likely starts:KLAS.IDALE2.HEC..RESOR..CIVETThe clearance would start:Cleared to Los Angeles via the IDALE2 departure, Hector Transition.....LODZY, IDALE, BOACH, RESOR, CIVET are intersectionsHEC is a VORTACMost of the time (in US airspace):-- 5 characters are intersections-- 3 characters are VOR or VORTAC-- 4 characters are airports-- 2 characters are NDBMany DP's use an intersection name followed by a number (IDALE2). The number (1-9 only) denotes the revision to the DP.Your FSBuild is probably using an older AIRAC cycle than your Level D. You may want to double-check that both FSBuild and Level D are indeed using the same AIRAC cycle.Hope this helps!Gene

Thanks for the info. There's something to say about this hobby. The longer you do it, the more difficult it becomes. Where to jet ways or air ways come into play. the stuff you punch in on the left part of the FMS (the Via) part?RH

KLAS to KLAX is a pretty short route. From KLAS there is a DP with a HEC transition. And into KLAX there is a STAR with a HEC transition. Therefore, this route doesn't have any Jet or Victor airways.Let's look at KSEA to KLAX. I used Route Finder ( http://rfinder.asalink.net/free/ ) for this example.

KSEA SID LKV J5 EHF STAR KLAXKSEA (0.0nm) -SID-> LKV (307.2nm) -J5-> HARTT (409.1nm) -J5-> PYRAM (467.0nm) -J5-> FMG (489.2nm) -J5-> TILTS (543.4nm) -J5-> SONNY (561.4nm) -J5-> TIOGA (585.7nm) -J5-> PINNI (654.3nm) -J5-> EHF (733.6nm) -STAR-> KLAX (832.2nm) ID FREQ TRK DIST Coords Name/RemarksKSEA 0 0 N47

Guest over and out

Can you open the flight plan using the company route option?

By the way if you have FSBuild, you could export the FP to the LDS FMC and then just type in the route in the Co Route line. I realize you may want to manually enter the route and in that case this is a way to check out any areas of confusion.Mark.

Thanks you. That's exactly what I did, and it worked like a champ. I really don't care about manually inputting routes. I am glad, however, that I did so prior to getting FSBuild. That way, at least I know how to do it. I started with inputting numerical waypoints into the great RFP 747-200, then graduated to inputting data into the LDS 767 FMC. Now, just uploading data into the 767 from FSBuild will do the trick.Now, I am back to square one. That is, learning how to fly the airplane. I have spent so much time learning the FMC that now I have practically forgot how to take the controls.Thanks for all the comments and suggestions from all my Avsim buddies.RH

I think fsbuild route would only provide for direct to fix or track to fix routing? to get conditional route legs you should probably get the sid/star/iap from planepath and use that to plan the departures and arrivals. I don't think it would be an issue on the BOACH2 except for take off on 1L/1R, which I don't think a 763 would ever do. But the first waypoint on the star is a flyover, and that would have to be programmed into the FMS as a star leg.See the difference in this comparison:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/187279.jpgMaybe someone with fsbuild and lvld767 export can confirm.scott s..
