OOM error or just a CTD?

Recommended Posts

O.K., I'm a little confused here. If you are having a OOM error, does it manifest it self as a simple crash to desk top or is there a specific error message followed by...? In other words, how can you tell if your CTD error is a OOM issue?

The classic CTD is manifested by FS simply disappearing with no message at all. A second type of CTD gives a black screen, lots of disk thrashing, and then an error box that gives regrets and the offer to restart FS. The OOM error typically shows up as a message box declaring that the system has run out of memory and that you need to close your application(s) to free up memory - then FS drops dead and closes.DJ
