Anyone Know the Cause?

Recommended Posts

Guest flightsimmernick

Does anybody know the cause of this problem? It is an FSP 777 model - the only one I have. I have seen on a copuple of occasions where it taxi's in this position until it has to stop when it returns to normal - all wheels on ground. I have seen it happen once on vacation upon landing and this shot was taken in the departure qeue. Any Ideas?http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/188769.jpg

If I had an aircraft display nonsense like that I would go to TFS.I have several V3 FSP 777 that I liked better than some other repaints, so I kept them, but have never noticed anything abnormal.I always liked the V3 version real well. But, that behavior is not acceptable.Way too many good models to go with.It does look to be a configuration problem in the air file.Things get messed up accidentally, I have noticed over five years now.On my "Twilight Zone" Dell, it seems to change things on its own that I have no explanation for. Truthfully. The piece of #@#$.

I've seen this problem before with some of my own large AI aircraft. My solution was to move the main gear back about two feet in the [contact_points] section of the respective aircraft.cfg files.Hope this helps.Hans

I've had bad experiences with messing about with CG positions and load distributions etc. because they effect the whole flight characteristics. If your only problem is "tail sitting" as in your picture then moving the main gear a few feet towards the tail remains my best solution. This will not influence the visual gear positions because those are drawn by the xxxxxx.mdl file in the model folder. The only aspect which will be effected is the start position of the main gear tyre touch down smoke effect.RegardsHans

Rather than say I have the answer, I will ask a question, sort of a curiosity. What aircraft are you in when this occurs?I got an interesting reply after I posted about this type of behavior. It was suggested that it was being caused by a freeware FS8 aircraft used in FS9. I had things happening like planes sitting on their tails like yours, sometimes the planes were torn up, like broken in two. And they even took off vertically, like rockets. Very strange. I removed the plane I was flying and tried the default Cessna and the problem went away. So I ditched that plane.http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...40691&mode=full is the posting I am referring to.dolph

Hey Dolph,Tail sitting is one thing but real erratic behavior like AIs rocketing up into the sky etc. can also be caused by the "Aircraft Type" entry in it's .air file. For all fixed wing aircraft this should be either 0 (zero) or 2 and can be edited by e.g. a prog called AirEd. For AIs a "2" will only cause it not to show up in your FS9 "Select Aircraft" menu. I'm only sure about this in FS9 so it may not work or be completely different in FSX with which I have no experience.Hans

Thanks for your info. I have always been in the default FS Cessna when I have observed this behaviour so no freeware aircraft. Am going to try other models - shame though as IMO American Airlines texture in FSP is amazingly realistic!
