Replacing VIP models - Request help

Recommended Posts

Hi,Since the, with Squawkbox provided, VIP models look rather simple I tried to replace them with aircraft models of WorldOfAI.I succeeded to some extend (I do see the correct and replaced models), however none of the replaced models have undercariages/wheels.They simply float over the ground. Although I can live with it, having wheels would be much nicer.Has anyone experience with this? Here's what I did for example:'OLD' entry in aircraft.cfg (VIP folder)Title=VIP_A321SASSim=JETModel=JA321Panel=Sound=Texture=JSASChecklists=description=This model is VIP3 for only visual model for other online aircraft.- Copied the WoA model to: ..VIPmodel.WoA_EVAI_A321_IAE- Copied the WoA SAS texture to: ..VIPtexture.WoA_EVAI_A321_IAE_SAS- copied the WoA air file to: ..VIPevai_a321_iae.air- Edited the aircraft.cfg entry as follows:Title=VIP_A321SASSim=evai_a321_iaeModel=WoA_EVAI_A321_IAEPanel=Sound=Texture=WoA_EVAI_A321_IAE_SASChecklists=description=This model is VIP3 for only visual model for other online aircraft. As mentioned above: I do see the replaced model however without wheels.Anyone suggestions?P.S.Here's a screenshot of what I meanhttp://www.ewdrenth.eu/upload/WoA.jpg

It may be too early in the morning (only one cup of coffee so far) so I may be misunderstanding your post - but I am not sure you will be able to succesfully do what you are attempting. It would probably be better to decompile the associated Traffic file and add the WOAI aircraft to the aircraft list and edit the flightplans to call that aircraft instead of the VIP one.I assume the WOAI aircraft would need to have it's own aircraft.cfg file (along with the air file and model etc) in order to work properly the way you are attempting to do it.Hope that makes some sense.BTW - are there really 749 variations of the VIP aircraft?

Hi David,Thanks for your reply.I'm talking about online (VATSIM) traffic here, not about AI-traffic.SB comes with the VIP aircraft library. This library is installed in the ..aircraftvip folder and the aircraft.cfg contains 1400+ entries for most combinations of aircraft/airline.The VIP aircraft models/textures are very basic and that is an understatement. So I would like to replace some with aircrafts of WoA models/textures, who look much better and still have reasonable framerates.I succeeded in replacing a few models, but somehow they don't have wheels. I wonder why?The original WoA IA aircraft still are on my system (other folders) and used as 'normal' AI aircraft they do have wheels.

You will not get the wheels on addon aircraft unless they are coded on. Been a long time fault of FS/Online flying.

I embarked on the same road a while back, it was way too tedious, and you are right you still have the problem with the missing wheels/landing gear.My solution was to switch to FSINN, which has a easier interface to match better looking AI planes to the multiplayer aircraft you see on Vatsim. FSINN has a user interface to match AI planes to aircraft codes, and airline callsigns etc. With FSINN you get the wheels/landing displayed as well. The missing landing gear is an issue with the current version of Squawkbox.FSINN overall is not as easy to use as Squawkbox IMO, but if getting better looking MP aircraft (and the all important landing gear displayed) while on Vatsim is what you really want, I recommend giving FSINN a try.Regards.Ernie.

Hi Ernie and Clarke,Thanks for the info!I understand there's nothing I can do about it, at least not when using SB.I also do have FSINN, maybe I should give it once more a try.
