Stutter when ATC gives Approach Instructions

Recommended Posts

Guest Arno Kohler

Hi allI hope somebody can help with this. My FS is smooth enough throughout all phases of flight - except when ATC issues approach insctrutions during IFR flights. Then it stutters, sometimes so badly that it would be impossible to fly the aircraft if it were not on autopilot. Usually immediately after instructions are received the stutter goes away but sometimes it lasts between 30 seconds & a minute afterwards. Then all is smooth again for the remainder of the flight.I've tried all I can think of, including DX sound settings to basic, but nothing works. Anyone have ANY ideas? Thanks

I have the noticed the same thing over the years. I've always thought it had something to do with ActiveSky.

Do you have a sound card (as opposed to using "on board" sound) and if so, what is it?2. Have you checked the sound card site for any updates?3. It might also be possible that one or both of the two sound files -USEnglishBig.gvp and USEnglishASOS.gvp have been corrupted. They reside in your Sound folder. You might try restoring them from the install disks. This site will be helpful in that regard:http://www.cat-tamer.com/flightsim/faq001.htmlIt shows where everything is on your install disks and how extract just what you need.I also recommend fs9cddir.zip Compiled by Brian Collins (available here in the library)This is an Excel format listing of all the files on your install disks. A great resource to keep handy.Hope these thoughts are of some value.

> Wow, that is a stretch!I know. For some reason something is draining resources from FS when ATC issues user and AI approach instructions. Maybe it is because I have so much AI (in which case FS would allocate most of its resources to that, causing stutters) or maybe some program is waiting for those approach instructions (if they can even be intercepted) to perform some kind of action. My theory was that AS needed that data to set the arrival weather. It may very well be just a theory. Maybe it's FDC, I dunno. Now, it doesn't bother me that much, I've learned to live with it. I could perform a flight without AS, but that's almost blasphemy. ;-)
