Stupid ATC - ILS question

Recommended Posts

Guest Hingham2008

I have noted a few times that ATC will direct me on an approach that will leave me outside the range of the ILS signal. Happened at both KORD and KBOS. Very frustrating after a long flight. What are the variables to correct in any? Aircraft an issue? Both times with CLS DC10-10. Any guidance appreciated. Thanks in advance...Dave

I'm not sure there is anything you can do. Are you sure it NEVER brought you to the localizer? - ATC sometimes routes you the loooong way. When it happens again and you are sure it's not going to bring you back, turn to the correct heading and intercept the localizer - ignore ATC at that point...Hope this helps,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

Dave,FS ATC conducts approaches relatively well (yes, maybe this is an overstatement...:-violin), too many vectors too early, but good enough to get you to intercept the localizer and capture succesfully the glideslope. However, from time to time it does fail and leave you out there on your own or give you faulty vectors. What you can do is, use the approach routes in the default GPS (Garmin 500). Ignore the vectors, just acknowlegde them and continue your GPS route. You will be given final vectors when you get close to the airport.I can also suggest using real world charts but I have tried it with CLS aircraft(Airbus in my case) and it's pretty much impossible since you can't enter waypoints into the FMC.Best regards

One things that helps is to ask ATC for an approach when it initially tells you what approach to expect. Usually the approach you want is listed. After I request it, ATC clears me directly to the approach fix. This eliminates the ATC vectors given by the virtual young controller who is also a geometry apprentice. Have funDave Vega
