Breakthru - AI Helicopters

Recommended Posts

Just a heads up for anyone who is interested in AI Helicopters. The new release here by MAIW of maiw_1-130th_avn.zip includes a real breakthru.http://library.avsim.net/search.php?Search...=root&Go=SearchThe AI Helicopter by Nick Black with FDE and effects by Mike MacIntyre and Nick Needham is nothing short of amazing. They have been able to get a AI Heli to take off realistically and the landing stop is almost immediate.Hat's off to the entire team for a great advancement in AI Heli's.

Hi Andy:Try this page:http://library.avsim.net/search.php?Search...=root&Go=SearchThe Download link is:http://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=128044When all else fails, one can try searching the AVSIM File Library for the filename (Ex: "maiw_1-130th_avn.zip")< Oops... cross-posted; thanks for the heads-up, Opa!;-) > Hope this helps! :-) GaryGB

Slightly off-topic, but the easiest link to a file is if you replace 'download' in the following link (which you can get by right-clicking the download button and choosing copy shortcut), with 'esearch':http://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=128044http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?DLID=128044Short and user-friendly, because it allows people to first view the description, to ZipDive, etc...

As a beta tester for MAIW I hope that everyone takes a look at this package. It really has some innovative stuff in it and I think all the rotorheads will enjoy.More surprises to come...shhhh...KJ

>Looks great,>>If I install the included scenery FS crashes though!>>ScottI experienced the same thing - finally just went with the default and did not install the additional scenery. As an additional "test", I substituted the new AI Heli for another one I had making out and back flights in another scenery. I did that so I could watch the take off and landing more easily.Truly remarkable.I hope they will see fit to apply the same technique to some civilian models in the near future.

LOL...........we don't do civilian stuff...........yet! Regarding the CTD's: There was a texture file for the optional scenery that was ommitted from the package. It goes into the main FS9/Texture folder instead of an addon scenery folder. We missed it in testing because it's a file that has been used in many of our other addon sceneries that we've released lately. So by virtue of having our other sceneries installed, most of our testers already have this texture file in that folder and therefore don't experience a CTD like a clean system would. The file is available for download in the support thread for this package. Not sure if we're going to re-release this package with this file or not. As far as the AI helicopter goes, it's an AH-64 Apache and it does finally behaive like a real helicopter would. Lots of work involved between the modeler, Nick Black and the Flight Dynamics creator, Mike MacIntyre, to get it to finally look realistic and the end result is pretty cool. It can only get better from here. It may work in FSX, probably the reflective glass of the cockpit won't work in FSX, but everything else should.Lots of other fun projects we're working on these days. Stay tuned!

Dave I think you have to register to get access to the forum file attachments. If you have a generic email account, I can probably just send it to you.
