What 2nd Vid Card for Panel Display

I currently run two 17" monitors off of a GeForce TI4600 card. I have the main view from the DF737 on the main montior and the smaller panels on the other. I would now like to add a 15" monitor for the overhead panel. What would be a good video card to purchase to support this monitor? How much onboard memory, etc? In my experience, a fancy video card is completely unnecessary for secondary monitors. Assuming you only want to display 2d panel elements, any old pci video card will be fine. I've used a 2MB ATI Mach 64 card with good success. It won't support 3d views, but that's not really what you want.

Ken,Agree with your comments.Do you use XP? I had trouble getting a PCI card to be recognised in XP (I had the driver). It was then that I discovered that my GF4 4200 was dual head anyway! But now I would like to add a PCI card for a third monitor as per the original poster.Cheers,Andy

Andy, thanks for reminding me. I use XP, and I had trouble initially too, but then I discovered that you need to go into your bios and tell it to initialize the PCI card first. Once you do that Windows will (hopefully) recognize the second card.

Ken,I did try that but it then wouldn't recognise the AGP card at all. Maybe it was just the el cheapo PCI card.Mind you, I didn't spend a heap of time on it as soon as I discovered the 4200 had the dual output. I have since given the PCI card to a friend who runs 98 so I might try a different brand and see how it goes.Now I just need to convince my wife I need a new 19inch monitor!Andy

Get a Nvidia TNT2. It is cheap and there will always be drivers available. Moreover I can guarantee that it works perfectly together with the GF4Ti4600 and WinXP as this is exactly my setup. Other than that I agree with the above comments. A fancy card will be unnecessary.Alex
