Re Help with the PMDG Queen in FS9 - solved

Recommended Posts

Guest volvov40

Mainly for the benefit of Gavin, B52Drivr and January who were good enough to reply, I have resolved the issue with poor frame rates in FS9. An application running in the back-ground was causing the problem. I don't know which one yet (I disabled all start-up applications in msgonfig - except virus protection)and now the frame rates are mega with all aircraft. I may try to find out which one - one day - if I can be bothered! For now I am just mightily relieved that my investment in a new rig has been justified. Thanks again guys!RegardsJohn

You get no OOMs with the Queen, Gavin? If so, do you have the 3GB switch applied?I gave up flying it again after another OOM.I've eliminated all possible OOM causes* and it's fine. Now I can fly all other aircraft but the Queen will give me OOMS on final approach to many addon airports anyway. It stays with around 1.3GB shown in the Task Manager and won't go down until it does the bang.*except for the 3GB switch which I do not want to apply since I like AES and my FS PC is my working PC at the same time.Best regards,RafalBTW: I bought the DA Fokker 70/100 today. It's a gorgeous product, although there are no keyboard commands (important to me with my simple home made cockpit).I'm going to enjoy it till late night now. ;)

I would wager a bet the PMDG is not the cause it is just putting your system over the edge with all of your other add-ons installed...If you want to fly any aircraft you want, use AES and not worry about OOM's then there is really only one solution (the /3gb switch is a band aid IMHO)Install XP 64, get yourself 4 gigs of memory, make FS9 LargeAddressAware and enjoy FS9 on today's h/w the way it was meant to be enjoyed all along...But that is just my .02 and I am OOM free since day 1 with XP 64. While you are at it, dual boot and install it again for FSX if and when the bug bites you so you can enjoy the two independently :)Cheers,-PaulPrimary RigLiquid CooledIntel C2D E8500 468X9.5 @ 4.45Asus Maximus Extreme4 gigs OCZ Reaper DDR3 @1400Dual OC'd XFX 8800GTX @ 2 gigsDual VelociRaptor 10k 3gb/s RAID-0Dual WD Caviar 500 gig Raid-0Single 150Gig SATA2 Swap Drive28 inch LCD 16XAA/16XAFDual 19 inch LCD'sPCPower and Cooling 1k Quad SLIXP64, Saitek Yoke, Saitek Rudders, Go-Flight Flap,Gear and Trim Controlhttp://home.comcast.net/~psolk/3monitorsa.htmlBackup RigsIntel E6600 @ 3.2Asus P5N32E-SLI Plus3 Gigs Kingston Hyper XXFX 8600 GTAMD 4000 San Diego @ 2.72 Gigs Kingston Corsair XMS CL2XFX 7900 GTX Raid-0psolk.jpg

ThanksJohn

>What are OOMs', whats a 3GB switch and what does "...until it>does the bang", mean? 1.'OOM' - Out Of Memory error (You have run out of available memory...)2.'3GB Switch' - a trick to allow increase in virtual memory to 3GB - but there are specialists around here who may explain it better3.'until it does the bang' - until your FS (while in a session) does...a) BANG! - an error window jumps out and frightens you with an annoying message or :( BANG! - your FS just quits to desktop.Sory if I'm still not clear.English is not my native language. :)Best regards,Rafal

>You get no OOMs with the Queen, Gavin?>If so, do you have the 3GB switch applied?>Czesc RafalNo, no OOMs with PMDG744 even when flying from Aerosoft EDDF to Aerosoft EGLL. Yet, so far, fingers crossed and lots of other good luck things done.As for the 3GB switch: a) I've 'only' got 2GB RAM, b)don't have a clue how to do the 3GB thing.I've got a 2 year old Intel dual core thing, an NVIDIA something with 256GB RAM, WinXP SP3 and don't know too much about computers.I keep my FS9 as clean as possible and only install aircraft/scenery that I know I'll use a lot - ie not much. I run ASV6.5 with every flight, FSNAV and AI smooth. I have a few Project AI packages - but not too many. I never bother with things like UT, landclass, mesh, etc.I have no idea how to install drivers for video cards and have never tried.I turn off my anti virus before using FS9.Basically, as you can see, I'm prepared to make sacrifices with things like terrain if it keeps my flights smooth.Pozdrawiam.

I just can't help it.I must try everything I can, lol.And then the time comes to pay the price. And the MD-11 is coming :(Serdecznie pozdrawiam,Rafal

Hi Rafal,Have you made sure that you have no duplicate AFCAD files? Also, I have many addons FlightSim Manager and it came up with Landclass files in their scenery folders, with for the most part is a no-no...it causes memory leaks. Once those LC files were corrected (moved to a separate Landclass folder) I have never experienced OOM errors with PMDG like I used to.Devin

Devin,Yes, of course. By 'eliminated all possible OOM causes' I meant doublechecking:-AFCADs-landclass files-corrupted bgls-corrupted AI texturesThanks anyway.Best regards,Rafal

I'm no expert by any means. but do believe that keeping FS and my comp as lean as possible is a good thing to do.Rafal - a bit like eating fresh fruit and veggies often and taking it easy on the golonka, schabowy z frytkami and smalec diet ;-) Less fun maybe, but keeps the body working better. Can't resist those Friday beers though :-)
