Re-installing FSX

Recommended Posts

Hi all,After reading Christians comment that the RTM version of FSX is the best version for use with TileProxy I decided to un-install FSX +SP1 and reload the RTM version.Unfortunately FSX will not re-install comming up with Error 1335 - The cabinet file D1Feat~7.cab required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used. The DVD is clean and scratch free and I have the latest DVD driver intalled (according to Microsoft). What do you think guys? Is the drive faulty? Sometimes when playing a pre-recorded dvd a blank screen comes up but the dvd continues after a couple of seconds. The DVD is a Toshiba SD M1612.Bernard

what happens if you copy the contents of the original DVD to your hard drive (drag & drop) ? Does it still indicate some error condition?Christian

Christian,I can drag and drop that file OK and it's properties look the same.Is it possible to re-install from copied files on C: drive?B

I have now put both disks onto the C drive but the same error persists except with a different file - CabD1Feat~11.cab. Feature transfer error.During cleanup I get another error - Error 1603 Fatal error during installation. Consult Windows Installer Help Msi.chm.Then finally Internal error.I am beginning to think that there is something wrong with this pc.Any ideas anyone.B

Looks a bit like faulty RAM, faulty cable to DVD ROM or a faulty DVD drive. Hmm...You could keep copying the "bad" CABs to the C: drive until the installer finally accepts them.

Thanks Christian, it looks like I need a new computer, I was going to get one anyway but now I feel more justified. Is there any merit in going for a 64 bit operating system or should I wait? Thanks Bernard

I can recommend Windows XP Professional 64 Bit version. I have it working fine at home with Tileproxy. If you want to upgrade to DirectX10 graphics, go for Vista 32 or 64 bit edition.
