Going Shopping (Need Advice)

Recommended Posts

Guest Max Cowgill

I'll be doing a little shopping tomorrow for some FS add-ons and my options are limited to what's in stock at the local computer superstore (microcenter) who, actually, has a decent selection of FS add-ons. Here is a link to their website which lists all of the FS add-ons they carry: http://www.microcenter.com/search_results_...nate_group=N2C2I would appreciate it if you guys could just take a look at some of the programs listed on that page and tell me if there's any of them worth getting. I haven't really been paying attention to any of the add-ons that have come out for FS2k2 so I don't know if any of the ones they have are worth my hard-earned money. The only one on that site I know I'll be getting for sure is PIC 767 (which I used to own and absolutely loved!) but there are some others they have which sound enticing like Airport 2002 Vol. 1, Flight Deck Companion, Ready for Pushback, Eurowings Professional: Commuter Airliners, Co-pilot 2002, Private Pilot, VFR Private Pilot Training, Corporate Pilot, and several scenery add-ons. I don't know what to do! I could probably end up getting anywhere from 2-5 add-ons tomorrow but please limit your suggestions to what is listed on that page. I don't plan on making any online purchases in the near future so my options are limited to what I can find in my area.thanks in advance,Max Cowgill

Max --Besides 767 PIc, I would recommend Ready For Pushback. People have been saying a ton of great things, so much so that I will get it myself soon. But, whatever that latin saying is, 'buyer beware', ask someone else who has this addon what they think of it. There is(was?) a discussion conserning it in the 767 PIC forum here at avsim, so you might want to go take a look.About corperate pilot, read the reviews, which, IIRC, weren't very good. WRT the others, I have no idea.Good luck!

Why are you averse to online purchases? There is a wealth of fantastic payware that dwarfs the meager selection of off-the-shelf stuff you mentioned. You can do so much better.

Max, if you're into GA aircraft at all, I would suggest buying the RealAir SF-260 Marchetti as well as the Flight1 Meridian.. that will keep you happy and busy for quite a while (both are 5-star rated and set new standards for FS2k2).

Ready for Pushback is just great! Blows away all other airliner packages out there.http://www.panelshop.com for screenshots, forums and info. Stay away from Corporate Pilot and Private Pilot. They're severely outdated (they are old FS2000 packages released when that sim was new, so over 3 years on the market).Airport 2002 has received some pretty poor reviews.Flightdeck companion sounds nice to me but is for me too expensive for what it does.Eurowings Pro is a very mixed bag. Overall impressions from what I read are decent but not stellar.

It's not that I don't want to purchase online (believe me, I'd love to be able to) it's that I can't (not being able to have a credit card or checking account will do things like that to you).-Max Cowgill

Thanks for the advice everyone! I'll be on my way out the door in a few minutes here, so any last-minute advice would be appreciated. I've decided on PIC 767 and Ready for Pushback for sure, but if anyone could suggest any others my ears are open!thanks,Max Cowgill

Hi Max,FYI most online puchase/download outfits permit payment via money order, which may be a good solution for you! You just send em the order in the mail then they send you a confirmation when they get it, shouldn't take longer than a few days..-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...]
[/table

Well, I ended up getting 767 PIC and Ready for Pushback (and some miscellaneous hardware goodies). I wanted to get Airport 2002 but they didn't have it in stock :( Oh well, I've got enough stuff to keep me busy for awhile now...-Max Cowgill

Good choice on both, Ready for Pushback is just releasing some of the patch , the rest should be coming soon. Any help you need, just come over to the site and forums.Chris Boyce
